Of course he got quite into it, and requested the HD desktop size for himself. I never thought about it but it could have made a sort of half-assed Christmas gift to save cash, "Your name on a starship" type thing. I suppose its what a lot of CGI types do anyway, stick in references to people they know where it wont show.

As a fan of The Wars (except for ep I and Jar Jar. And of the whole Anakin being a kid and lack of a real Jedi back story. And of the whole continuity issues that god put in the prequels) , I wouldn't take offence!

Unfortunately there's no way to really personalise a Star Wars ship. They dont use english fonts and I cant really think of a way of sneaking something in. With the Trek ships its easy, and I think pretty much anyone would be proud to have a ship named after them. I've also done stuff in the past like making Babylon 5 Starfuries with personalised artwork for people, but I'm stumped for what to do for a Star Wars fan.

Empire Strikes Back is the best SE of the bunch, and I think actually opens up the scale of the movie. The other two are a mixed bag.

Back to the topic at hand - personalizing Star Wars stuff wouldn't be too dissimilar to personalizing Starfuries and what-not, seeing as Star Wars ships have paint jobs.

They dont have anything specific though. The Star Fury artwork I did had flags, names, slogans, etc. All you can do with an A Wing is change the colour of the stripe. Anything more and it takes you right out of the scene.

There's a font called "EngliBesh" that's normal letters done in the AurekBesh style so that it's still readable as English.

You could hide names in the greebling of the ships. have the greebles in the subtle shape of letters.

Empire is pretty much universal recognised as the best Star Wars movie, and a genuinely good movie regardless of genre. Lucas didn't direct it or write much of it, hence it being excellent stuff.
