How long have we been watching the duplicated 'oblivion' crew?

at Quark's

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Just chain-watching a few Voyager eps when I reached the beginning of Course:Oblivion.

Suddenly the thought struck me that it might be possible that we had been following this duplicate crew for a longer time than just this episode. So that could mean that the preceding episode(s) (for example, the disease with lovesick Harry Kim) never really happened to the prime crew.

Any thoughts on this? If so, how long could we have been following them instead of the prime crew ?(well, obviously not since further back than 4x24, "demon", but that still would be almost a year's worth) Or are there clear counterindications that we are only seeing this duplicate crew in the oblivion ep?

Well that's an interesting question! Why not?

Of the episodes occuring during the period between Demon and Course Oblivion, which I'll call the Demon Period here:
Timeless - the demon Voyager would have broken down by then
Latent Image - the real EMH would have broken down by now.
Shattered (after the Demon Period) - had a callback to Bride of Chaotica, so that must have been the prime ship in the Demon Period.
In the Flesh - occured in the Demon Period - but I can't think of any reference to 8472 after Course Oblivion to suggest continuity from that encounter.

There may be more continuity evidence, but from the above we can say that at least some of the episodes during the Demon Period were of the Prime Voyager. But we can't say how many from this.

Just thought of something -- Paris is a lieutenant again in Oblivion but he was demoted in 5x09 (Thirty days)....

Paris was demoted in 30 Days. Fake Paris still had his old rank. So we know that in episodes between 30 Days and Oblivion where he is referred to as an ensign must be about the real crew.

While we're talking about this episode, I think the writers missed an opportunity with the ending.

The show opens with the wedding of Tom and B'Elanna. He slips the ring on her finger and says it's a symbol of their eternal love. Here's where I would begin to change things: the two rings would have to be items not created by the silver stuff on the Demon planet. Let the fact that they are not breaking down be one of the clues that unravels the mystery.

Skip to the end. Instead of having Harry, 7, and Neelix being the final remaining survivors at the end, I would have went with Tom and B'Elanna, holding hands as the ship disintegrates around them. The real Voyager arrives and finds nothing, but the camera slowly moves in on the two rings floating together in space for eternity.

I can't put into words how much i love this

Every episode in between Demon and Course Oblivion was the "real crew".

I really love Course Oblivion it is a real answer to people who say Voyager wasn't "dark" or "realistic".

The only episodes that had Paris in his original rank before being demoted in "THIRTY DAYS" and occuring after "DEMON" are...

Season 4... "ONE", "HOPE AND FEAR"
Season 5... "NIGHT", "DRONE", "EXTREME RISK", "IN THE FLESH", "ONCE UPON A TIME", "NOTHING HUMAN", "TIMELESS"

Given that there was no mention of the Delta Flyer in "COURSE: OBLIVION", I don't think the copy crew had it, which eliminates all of the above except for "ONE", "HOPE AND FEAR", "NIGHT", and "DRONE".

As far as I can tell, those are the only ones that can even have a chance of being the copy crew.

The thing that confuses it for me is: the other crew would have needed enough time to forget they weren't the real crew, but had still travelled enough of a distance for the real crew to be in the same area when they disintigrated (but never met beforehand)...

Maybe the copy crew stumbled upon a wormhole that threw them farther than the real ship... a wormhole the real one never encountered.

Is wormholes your answer to everything, Farscape one? :p

Also having thought about it, perhaps it was the events in all the episodes in between which held up the real Voyager, allowing the other one to catch up?
