How long does refrigerated orange juice last outside the fridge?

Came back from a friends' place with my groceries (orange juice was in his fridge) and when I got home... forgot to put the juice in the fridge. It's meant to be kept below 40F, room temperature was about 70F, from the time I left his place to the time I remembered it, would have been 2 hours. I tried putting my digital thermometer in a glass of it and it was about 60F. It tasted and smelt ok, and was still "kind of" cool, but definitely not cold. It's not the pulp stuff, it is reconstituted with preservatives, but it's not the stuff that you can leave out for days before opening, it's meant to be refrigerated even before opening. If it helps, the use-by date is the 28th. Please help! I'm going overseas in less than 48 hours and don't want to risk making myself sick!!

Since I am sure that there are plenty of people that have juice out of the chiller in the supermarket for two hours before they get round the store, to home, and then put it in the fridge, I imagine you'll do okay.

It's fine. Stop worrying.

If it smells and tastes OK, I'd drink it. I mean, we're not exactly dealing with human blood or organs for transplant here.

I wouldn't worry about it if it's orange juice that's only been out of the fridge for a couple of hours. If it was milk, then there would be some cause for concern.

I'd personally not have even hesitated before drinking it, but I'm kind of a garbage about food.

Left out and unopened for 2 hours and still not above 60 degrees? Hell, it probably went through conditions worse than that getting to the store.

I saw a commercial once where a zombie apocalypse was started by someone drinking bad oj, or was it milk? I think it was a commercial for Toshiba laptops.

As kids, we would add a little yeast to orange juice and let it sit in a warm place to ferment a few weeks. Not very strong, but enough to get a nice buzz off of.

Orange juice isn't that expensive, just toss it.

:)

:)

I'd say it's drinkable, especially if it hadn't been opened yet.

honestly, you could probably leave it out for a couple of days and it would be fine. It's not milk, and it's pretty acidic. If it's not mouldy, I'd say you're ok! :techman:

Upon asking a friend on facebook:

ORANGE

JUICE

IS

ORANGE
PULP

If you cut an orange in half

by the next day

its no good

by two hours

YOU CAN STILL EAT IT

ITS FINE/.

Im going to bloody beat you with a bag of oranges.

D:<

I'd eat half an orange the next day if I felt like it. Also there are all sorts of preservatives in the OJ that most people buy.
