Household scavenger hunt

Miss Chicken

As people seem to like my bookshelf scavenger hunt I thought I would start a broader one for common and uncommon household items. I will list 12 things are people can tell me if they have one, or many, or none in their house or not. The item can belong to anyone who lives in the house.

1) a photo of your grandmother
2) an incense or oil burner
3) a magnifying glass
4) a laminator
5) knitting needles or a crochet hook
6) an old school report (yours, your child's)
7) An item (excluding books, photos or school reports) that is more than 50 years old
8) a tent
9) a hairdryer
10) a indoor potted plant
11) a vinyl record
12) a first aid kit

1) a photo of your grandmother -- No.

2) an incense or oil burner -- No.

3) a magnifying glass -- I thought I had a pocket magnifier around here someplace, but I guess not.

4) a laminator -- No. We have one at work, though.

5) knitting needles or a crochet hook -- No.

6) an old school report (yours, your child's) -- I still have a science report from ninth grade.

7) An item (excluding books, photos or school reports) that is more than 50 years old -- I have a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye camera that I keep purely for nostalgia. They don't make film for it anymore. My mother used it to take pictures of me when I was a baby, and I was born in 1953.

8) a tent -- Uh, say again? Jews don't camp! :)

9) a hairdryer -- No.

10) a indoor potted plant -- Used to have one or two, but not currently.

11) a vinyl record -- No.

12) a first aid kit -- No. I like to live dangerously.

My answers

1) a photo of your grandmother

Yes. I have photos of both my grandmothers. I have a wedding photo of my paternal grandparents. I have never seen a photo of my materal grandfather who died when my mother was a small child.

2) an incense or oil burner

Both, but I mainly use the oil burner

3) a magnifying glass

2 or 3

4) a laminator

Yes, I mainly use it to laminate the bookmarks I make as a hobby

5) knitting needles or a crochet hook

Both, somewhere. I haven't used either for a long time. I also have a lucet and a collection of 'knitting nancies".

6) an old school report (yours, your child's)

None of mine. I know I have some of my children somewhere in the house.

7) An item (excluding books, photos or school reports) that is more than 50 years old

I inherited my Mum's Waltzing Matilda musical jug which she bought for her glory box (hope chest) back in the early 50s.

8) a tent

Nope. I don't think I have ever owned a tent.

9) a hairdryer

I have a small one that I rarely use

10) a indoor potted plant

No, Potted plants and my cats don't get on together.

11) a vinyl record

No, and I have no idea what happened to the vinyl records I used to own.

12) a first aid kit

Yes, and I top it up once in a while.

1) a photo of your grandmother Does it count if they're on my computer?
2) an incense or oil burner Nope.
3) a magnifying glass A few dozen, actually.
4) a laminator Do people who don't make fake IDs keep these in their homes? I don't have one.
5) knitting needles or a crochet hook Multiple crochet hooks.
6) an old school report (yours, your child's) Well, my mom sent me my old leather jacket from high school because I wanted to start wearing it again, and in the pocket were ticket stubs for "Billy Elliott" and an official Seattle Public Schools note to go to the principal's office (likely to do with cutting class to see movies), does that count?
7) An item (excluding books, photos or school reports) that is more than 50 years old I have some books that old, and some pearls.
8) a tent Nope.
9) a hairdryer Yep.
10) a indoor potted plant Some have survived, yes.
11) a vinyl record I left them all at my mom's, sadly.
12) a first aid kit Sort of. It's all scattered everywhere, but I've got the necessary bits and pieces.

I think the photos count if they are on your computer.

I realised that I have probably forgotten how to knit or crochet. I could probably pick both back up by watching Youtube videos.

3) a magnifying glass--one in hubby's office
4) a laminator --nope
5) knitting needles or a crochet hook--nope
6) an old school report (yours, your child's)--nope. I don't have kids and I sure don't need to keep mine.

I just realised my childhood doll is older than 50 years old. She is a 22 inches pedigree walking doll similar to the one in this photo. My Mum paid 5 pounds for her back in around 1961 which made her quite an expensive doll. Like the doll in that photo mine has a new wig and new clothes.

^^ no knitting/crotcheting stuff, auntie? You're full of surprises. I'd have thought you to be the DIY type.

1) a photo of your grandmother
only of one of them. Good idea, though. I really must occasionally ask my uncle if he has any pics of his parents I might copy
2) an incense or oil burner
several. They are also handy for making a single baked apple =)
3) a magnifying glass
Not yet, but I'll need one soon
4) a laminator
No. Not planning to get one either. I need one only maybe once in 5 years
5) knitting needles or a crochet hook
tons! In all sizes =)
6) an old school report (yours, your child's)
all of them. Need them for applications and insurances
7) An item (excluding books, photos or school reports) that is more than 50 years old
quite a lot, mostly furniture. I think my oldest are an engraving and jewelry from the 1700s and a coin from around 1540. My bedlinnen is handspun, -woven and -embroidered and between 100 and 150 years old. Mom wanted to throw it all away *gasp*!
Real linnen is a nightmare to iron but heavenly cool in summer.
8) a tent
no. But 2 sleeping bags
9) a hairdryer
yes, but only for emergencies. Usually I let my hair dry over night. I use the dryer maybe once every 2 years
10) a indoor potted plant
one? LOL! My place is a jungle!
11) a vinyl record
quite a lot of them =) Including a lot of nice rarities. And I have the record player (with tubes, not transistors!) for them. It even has a needle for shellack records (of which I have a few, too)
12) a first aid kit
two: one in the kitchen (most sharp and pointy items), one in the bathroom (easiest to clean, hence best place to deal with messy wounds)

1) a photo of your grandmother - many, prints of the gram who owned the house I live in now, and a few digital of the other
2) an incense or oil burner - my husband has one, I think?
3) a magnifying glass - again, my husband probably has one
4) a laminator - no, but now I want one
5) knitting needles or a crochet hook - many many of both, all over the place
6) an old school report (yours, your child's) - my first semester of college grade report is posted on the fridge, everything else is likely still at my parents'
7) An item (excluding books, photos or school reports) that is more than 50 years old - of things I definitely know are in the house, some jelly jar glasses that were Gram's, and possibly my husband's sausage grinder is a family item
8) a tent - we keep that in the shed out back
9) a hairdryer - one, in the bedroom
10) a indoor potted plant - one, in the living room
11) a vinyl record - many, although my record player is in storage
12) a first aid kit - not as such, but all the bits on one shelf in the bathroom closet

My oldest possession is an 18th century statue of Quan Yin. And I have my original teddy bear; he's going to be 63 on Christmas.
8) a tent -- No
9) a hairdryer -- Yes, but haven't used it in years.
10) a indoor potted plant -- No. My cats like them too much.
11) a vinyl record -- No

7) An item (excluding books, photos or school reports) that is more than 50 years old

The only thing I have left that belonged to my parents is my dad's old Samsonite suitcase, which he bought in the 1950s or perhaps earlier. I've owned it since 1970, and still use it, though I lost the key in the last 5 years.

1) a photo of your grandmother
I inherited the family pictures when my father died.. got pics of both

2) an incense or oil burner
I have an oil lamp under the sink.. close enoug

3) a magnifying glass
Yep, in my 'junk' drawer

4) a laminator
Plastic laminating sheets, not a laminator.. close enough

5) knitting needles or a crochet hook

6) an old school report (yours, your child's)
A report I did in 1969 about Apollo 11..

7) An item (excluding books, photos or school reports) that is more than 50 years old
As SS patch from a WWII German uniform I found in the above mentioned pictures. I also have the stuffed dog I slept with as a child (and no, I don't sleep with it any longer)

8) a tent
No pictures

9) a hairdryer
Nope

10) a indoor potted plant
I have a plant grown from a co-worker 15 years ago. The damn thing just won't die.

11) a vinyl record
Hundreds of these.

12) a first aid kit
Yep, under the sink,

This would be a lot easier if I used my parents' house (where I still have a lot of stuff they're nagging me to move out).

1) a photo of your grandmother

They have one, I don't think I do.

6) an old school report (yours, your child's)

This might be the only one I have. Of course, I just graduated, so it's much easier to find ;)

7) An item (excluding books, photos or school reports) that is more than 50 years old
8) a tent
9) a hairdryer

Once again, parents house, not mine.

10) a indoor potted plant

Had one, never watered it, it died. So, does a pot for a potted plant count? ;)

11) a vinyl record

I have several, but I don't have a record player, so they're at my parents house once again. My parents also have a very good collection I'm trying to get my hands on.

12) a first aid kit

I do have this. It's from the days I was a scout, so I probably wouldn't trust anything inside it, but I do at least have two things on this list! ;)
