I got a kick out of the mom at the beginning and how the scout told her she should be an agent.

House vs Wilson Prank Wars ... it's started off slowly, but I have faith it'll amp up nicely.

House messing with Foreman is amusing... but the story itself with Foreman and Marcus is interesting.

Decent episode, again the House/Wilson stuff was the most interesting, ramped up by throwing Lucas into the mix who can play the game on their level.

The POTW stuff was the more interesting one they've had in a while with an interesting solution.

ARGHHHHH!!!

SPRINKLERS DO NOT WORK LIKE THAT!!!!!!

Since these sprinklers were sabotaged, maybe they were rigged to work like that.

This episode didn't do much for me, although I like the idea of House secretly being a nice guy.

Sprinklers have a little wax "plug" between the nozzle and the water outlet. When a fire starts it melts the plug allowing the water to flow through the sprinkler. There's no way to "set off" a sprinkler without melting that wax plug.

Did anyone get the feeling at the end, when House saw the soldier leaving with his entire foot amputated, that he was thinking; "...maybe I should watch what I say."

I thought it was more surprise and recognition on his part on what lengths people are willing to go through to achieve what they want.

I imagine a resourceful enough person could've attached small remote-triggered devices to each individual sprinkler head to break the seal on all of them at once. And surely there are other ways to modify a sprinkler. When we see shows and movies that depict sprinklers going off on cue (and are actually shown the sprinkler heads, unlike here), that means that the mechanical effects crew has rigged those sprinklers so that they could be triggered in an unconventional way. So that's proof that it is possible to set up such an event if one has the knowledge and resources.

One more thing: anybody have a clue what the title means?

In football the "chains" are moved to measure the new down line (the point the offensive team has to reach to retain control of the ball) after the offensive team has made a first down.

Colloquially, it could be used to imply a person always setting a new goal for themself to achieve on the way to a grander goal.

The phone rang during the last 30 seconds or so. I missed a lot of the dialogue between House and Wilson just before seeing the guy with the amputated foot. Would anyone mind providing a transcript if possible?

Cuddy and Lucas leave Cuddy's office.

Cut to House who is standing at the reception desk, checking a file. Wilson enters from behind and goes to his left.

W: I heard Foreman and his brother are trying to work things out.

H: That's nice for them.

W: It's nice of you. You didn't provoke Marcus to quit so the pranks would stop. You were becoming the common enemy they could bond over. You are a diabolical yet benevolent puppet master.

H: I provoked Marcus to quit, because he was no longer useful to me. I hired him to get information, I got information.

W: Aha, and how are we gonna get back at Lucas?

H: We're not.

W: I win. (walks off)

Zoom onto House's face, cut to the soldier being wheeled off by his pregnant girlfriend. We see that his foot has been amputated.

Cut back onto House being in deep thought onto what lengths people go to reach a goal.

I loved the Poirot accent  great (might be loss on the American viewers) but god it was good. Lucas and Cuddy need to GO DOWN :shifty:

Americans know who Hercule Poirot is. We've seen Murder on the Orient Express, there was a whole series of Peter Ustinov TV movies on CBS in the '80s, and PBS showed the David Suchet series on Mystery. Not to mention that some of us Yanks even know how to read books!

Loved damn near everything about this episode. The scene with the reference to Foreman's mother between him and house seemed over the top at the time, but once I understood the context of House being "the common enemy they could bond over" it all made sense. The House/Wilson scenes were top-notch and next week's "hospital strife" looks interesting. Although, I hope they don't go back to the Vogler well and pull up a clone. Either way, though, I think a lot of people were worrying that the show would get stale with all the 'ships going on, but they've definitely breathed new life into the old girl. Fantastic so far!

What Jax ment was in the UK ITV makes at least one new Poirot with David Suchet every year and was not sure if it was shown over in the US.

I didn't mean any offence and was not on about the book so you can remove the chip off your shoulder. I meant his acting was close to the character from the UK TV series. I have no idea if the series ever aired in America and I bet the wide spread America probably hasn't seen a UK Tv show that is on randomly every now and again.

Next week should be nothing like that.
It looks like this is the "Cuddy" episode to go along with the "Wilson" episode they did a while back. This should be the version of the show where Cuddy's the star and House is a supporting character.

*sigh* I keep forgetting it's impossible to do deadpan humor on the Internet. I was hoping that since since this is a House thread, my comments might come across in the sardonic, carefree House-ish tone I heard in my head as I wrote them.
