Holy crap! Jen on “Top Chef All-Stars” eats judges for dinner

During her season, I remember Jen had problems with self-confidence. No more, huh? She was ready to kick ass and take names, without taking names.

I think Tiffany and Antonia, upon finding the oven cooked unevenly, should’ve compensated by rotating the pan. They could see which frittatas were less-cooked since they were in a grid. Foolish of Tre, but nice to see Casey get the fish right. And Tiffani really comes across better than in her original season.

Marcel’s still arrogant; Stephan’s improving, and I think the judges were surprised by him. Carla is a favorite of mine and Fabio, well he’s not shy, at least when it comes to Tony Bourdain (who probably shouldn’t drink so much when he’s going to judge).

Looks like a good season.

SPOILER!!

Jen was out this episode--only due to her food, of course.

I liked the opening episode. It was nice to see how all the chefs would deal with using the ingredients that previously sent them home. Sure, it was a little dickish of the producers, but it was interesting to watch.

Edit:

It's also interesting to see how the extra confidence of being "all stars" has affected the chefs. They seem less inclined to take criticism well in the all-stars season.

Ain't that the truth! I thought Fabio was going to invite Bourdain out to the alley to settle it like a man...

Too bad about Jen. I think what we saw last night was actually the flip-side of her uncertainty meltdown from her previous season. Frankly, I'm not surprised she's got issues, given what she said her old man taught her: "Second place is the same as last." Man, who teaches their kid crap like that! :wtf:

It was too bad the way Jen went out. I understand her wanting to defend her dish, but she should have recognized when to keep her mouth shut.

I'm not sure who I want to win. I'm actually leaning towards Angelo.

I loved Jen's torqued off salute. The chefs are definitely on the warpath this time around. I love Fabio's outrageous Eyetalian accent, he's like an Italian Clouseau, I hope he and Bourdain go at it again.

I like a number of them but Angelo has always rubbed me wrong, he's the one I definitely don't want to see win.

I don't mind team challenges because they add some drama, but I don't like it when not everyone makes his/her own dish; and yeah, I enjoy that the chefs are more confident talking back to the judges this season. Jen also was spot-on when she said they should cook for the judges and not the kids. I think Tre or the crybaby with the thumb whose name I can't even remember should've been kicked out this time.

^^ Yeah, thinking back on it, Tre's sauce was bad (yet not from ambitious overreach) while Jen's dish was merely bland. I'm not clear on what they had available to make the dishes better either, did the meat team have a full complement of spices and stuff?

I'm hoping Richard can pull off the win. Since his season of Top Chef I've seen him on a few episodes of Iron Chef America, both as a competitor and a sous chef to Iron Chef Cat Cora.

I'd like to see Blais or "Hootie-Hoo" Carla pull it off. I thought they both should have won their seasons but choked in the finale.

Yep and I can't stand him... Marcel that is. He put down Angelo last episode and personally I can't wait for him to be out.

As for Angelo, so far so good there. Didn't like him originally on Top Chef: DC, but he's really come a long way.

I agree about Angelo, at first I couldn't stand him last season, but now I have more respect for him. I guess he seemed really arrogant at first but then he proved that he had the skills to back his confidence up.

I actually don't like that they keep mouthing off to the judges so far this season. On the one hand it is interesting TV, but it also makes me feel uncomfortable and like they are being ungrateful and smug.

I think they feel like they have proved themselves at least somewhat already, so while honest criticism of their dishes is acceptable, needless insults by a drunk (but very funny) judge is another thing. As Fabio pointedly stated.

Surprise! Liking Tiffany--she’s a bitch, bitch. At least not this season. And she helped Stephen meet his time. And I liked Tiffani (“T2” as she was called by Tiffany). Actually, I like a lot of them this time. Well, Marcel’s still a git. Even moreso in a way. Most have grown, personally and professionally, while he’s still a git. Talented. But a git.
