Hogan's Heroes, the movie

Temis the Vorta

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
First step, line up Quentin Tarantino to direct.

After a three-year battle waged to determine ownership of sequel and separated rights on the CBS sitcom Hogan’s Heroes, creators Albert S. Ruddy and the late Bernard Fein have been granted all rights. Ruddy will work with Fein’s estate to develop a feature film ensemble comedy using the show’s clever WWII German prison camp premise.

Greg Kinnear is an obvious choice for Hogan, but how about Col. Klink? Sgt Schultz?

Klink-Ralph Fiennes
Hochstetler-Gary Oldman

Market it as a comedy but make it a straight drama...so when the audience leaves they have no idea wtf they just watched.

Klink - Steve Carrell
Schultz - Louis CK
Le Beau - Jay Baruchel
Newkirk - Chris Pine ;) okay seriously...Simon Pegg
Carter - Jack McBrayer
Kinchloe - Jamie Foxx
Hochstetter - Christopher Waltz
Hilda/Helga/pigtailed blonde du jour - Anna Farris or Amy Pohler

Please Hollywood; don't f-up another one of my childhood memories. Haven't you done enough already? I have an idea; come up with something new!!

Random Hogan's Heroes Trivia: All the actors who played the major Nazis (Colonel Klink, Sgt. Schultz, Klink's superiors) were Jewish, and the guy who played Lebeau was imprisoned in a concentration camp during WWII.

I hate Will Ferrell, but I can see him playing an over-the-top Klink.

I thought about Will Ferrell and also Jim Carrey, but Klink needs to have a truly hapless and pathetic aspect to him, so I went with Steve Carrell.

In keeping with tradition Larry David for Klink

Anyway, Dave Sim had a brilliant analysis of Hogan's Heroes back in one of his Swords of Cerebus trade paperbacks. He interpreted the show as a satire of corporate bureaucarcy in the 60s. The main Germans on the show (Klink, Schulz and to a lesser extent Burkholder), were middle management guys. They didn't want to be there and didn't believe in the business. They were just terrified of being fired (sent to the Russian front). Major Hoffsteader was the outside consultant who occasionally showed up from the corporate HQ (Berlin) who could shake things up and get them fired. Basically, the Nazi uniforms were grey flannel suits.

These childhood memories were already raped the first time any of us cracked open a history book in middle school.

Makes sense to me. Especially the way Klink sucks up to the boss, when ever high ranking members of the military or the party visits the camp.

Unless Will Smith is Hogan this doesn't get made. :p

A cogent observation over at Deadline:

This film is being produced by two Geriatrics that are older than Merchant and Ivory!

The distance between these two geezers getting the rights to make a movie and finding the funding and a studio that gives a fuck is immense. When is Larson's new version of Battlestar Galactica being released, again?

Burkhalter
: "Fortunately, I have a plan."
Klink: "Brilliant plan, Herr General!"
Burkhalter: "...I haven't said what it is, yet."
Klink: "Oh, yes, of course, but it will be brilliant!"
Burkhalter: "Shut up, Klink."
Klink: "Yes, Herr General."

I figure, it was all a commentary on Hollywood right? :D

And I hereby withdraw Carrell in favor of Larry David as Klink. Brilliant suggestion!

If Greg Kinnear isn't cast is Hogan (and that may be too obvious after the Bob Crane movie) I would go with Joel McHale from community
