HER MAJESTY’S SHIP HERO

Commisioned in 1966, Hero was a Leander-class frigate, serving the Royal Navy until 1991. She had a crew of 260 officers and men and displaced almost 3000 tons fully loaded. Two Babcock and Wilcox oil-fired boilers powered the ship to a top speed of 27 knots. Her armaments included 4 Exocet missile launchers, 3 Seacat surface to air missile launchers, 2 40mm guns and tubes for Stingray ASW torpedoes.

WARSHIP

The popular BBC series created by Ian Mackintosh and Anthony Coburn. Starring Donald Burton, Bryan Marshall and Derek Godfrey as Hero’s captains over the show’s four season run, Warship was meant to depict daily life aboard a Royal Navy warship during the Cold War. Hero was portrayed by several Leander-class frigates, but filming was mainly done aboard HMS Phoebe.

Woah, there's a DVD set of Warship?!! :bolian:

I enjoyed watching the re-runs on satellite tv in the 90's, I'd given up hope of DVDs.

I wasn't aware there was one available either, but Amazon UK have the first season available. Doesn't look like later seasons are though yet

I only know about the show because I found couple of episodes on YouTube, and they've since been taken down.

I wish we could manage a show like that or Sea Patrol here in the US, but apparently Hollywood can't manage to do it straight so we get a show with a destroyer fighting a worldwide plague.

Not that I don't like that show, just

The last UK made one that I can recall was "Making Waves" and that only got to episode 3 on tv before being cancelled.

Sea Patrol still airs regularly on one of the cable/Satelite channels.

I haven't seen Warship myself yet but it is on my wish list so now I know it's available, I might get it.
