Thirty-nine living relatives of Adolf Hitler have been discovered by a customs official and a journalist who claim to have decoded the Nazi dictator's DNA.

Analysing forgotten cigarette butts in a small village in lower Austria, a used paper serviette in a New York fast food restaurant and the seals of letters sent over 30 years ago from northern France, Marc Vermeeren and Jean-Paul Mulders said they had traced all known living relatives of the Fuehrer for the first time.

As well as three living in America, whose existence has been reported previously, they claim to have tracked down 36 others who still live in the wooded area of Austria where Hitler was born.

Mr Vermeeren, a Belgian customs official, and Mulders, a journalist for Belgian newspaper Het Laaste Nieuws, said three great-grandchildren of Hitler's father, Alois, lived on Long Island, outside New York, under the false name Stuart-Houston. They are descendants who left Germany to escape the Nazis.

Do you think it's right for them to go public? Hitler was the man responsible, not his family. Further, the trio living in America escaped Nazi Germany.

Yes. That doesn't sound insane at all.

And...

Oh GEEZ.

Can you imagine finding out you're related to Hitler?!?!

I don't really see the need to track down his relatives or third cousins or whatever. I'm not sure they have a right to go public;I'm assuming that actually naming the group's new name is a bit of a breach of privacy.

We all saw The Boys from Brazil. All the little Hitler clones are down there.

Even if all this is true, so effing what?

This information potentially puts those thirty-nine lives at risk. I don't see the justification for this study. The people involved should be ashamed of themselves.

Why does anyone care who the distant living relatives of Hitler are? It doesn't help anyone or uncover anything that would make a difference. I am highly curious and always err on the side of knowing everything we can just for the sake of knowing, but this is one instance in which knowing is absolutely useless and only puts lives at risk.

Smacks of unhealthy obsession. This is one aspect of the past that should be left alone. They can't help who they're related to.

Why? Do you think people will try to take vengeance? On those who are in no way responsible for Hitler's actions? That would be pretty high on the fucked-up-o-meter.

My concern is that white supremacist groups might try to get ahold of these people. But not to kill them...

These people have done nothing wrong and should be left alone, you can't help where you get your genes from. If anyone does anything to persecute these people they're no better than Adolf Hitler.

Who cares if they're related to Hitler? If you want to get nuts, and theological, we're all related to Cain who killed his brother and slept with his mom.

So what?

There's a lot of bad people in the world and everybody is related to somebody. Should this be the start of a trend? Do we need to track down all the relatives of Jeffrey Dahmer, or Jim Jones, or OJ Simpson? Seems like a waste of resources to me.

Go back far enough in the family tree and we're all related. We all come from one common mother...one "eve"...and the bitch was black. :techman:
