Highlander- the Series: Fanfiction

I love to read about Duncan, Methos and Joe, but the majority of fanfiction appears to be slash. Not really my cup of tea.

What's your favourite Highlander fanfic? Please post the story or a link in this thread!

My favourite is: Methos' to-do list. As it's a rather short one, I'll post it here directly, instead of inserting a link:

To Do List: Methos

'To Do List: Methos' is copyright © Trudy A. Goold.
Notes: The 'To Do Lists' were started on the PhilosophySphere Forum (EFC) by Loui; then Methos started talking to me...

Methos nibbled thoughtfully for a moment on the cap of his pen, studying the piece of paper on the table in front of him, and then nodded in satisfaction. Done.
Standing up, he wandered over to the fridge and stuck it on using the official Watcher magnet he'd received four years ago for the most entertaining scavenger hunt in the history of the Watcher Researchers' annual picnic.
To Do lists could be quite useful sometimes...

Methos' To Do List
#01. Rescue MacLeod from the babe of the week.
Note to self: What is it with him and women?! Doesn't he realize that the female is deadlier than the male?!
#02. Rescue MacLeod from the angst-fest of the week.
#03. Needle MacLeod until he stops brooding and starts making noises about dumping me on my bum again.
#04. Lose spar to MacLeod.
Reminder: Don't use the overhand thrust - he doesn't have a defense against it.
#05. Hack in to Watcher database to check on the status of MacLeod's latest enemy.
#06. Go to Joe's. Mooch beer.
#07. Find out Cassandra's current location.
Note to self: Joe will probably spill it if you give him another story or two about your time with Butch and Sundance.
#08. Mooch more beer from Joe.
#09. Tell Joe about the fight between Dmitri Kladistock and Min Yi Cheng.
Reminder: Duck when you mention the banana peel. Beer stains sweaters.
#10. Finish mooching beer from Joe.
#11. Burn this list.

another author I can recommend is Wajag .
Especially "Death goes to the movies" is both thrilling and highly amusing (it can stand alone but is even better if you read the whole series).
Methos is hired as a history specialist for a movie and soon becomes the cast's fencing instructor as well. Some hilarious scenes develop from his enmity with his predecessor and the guy's brother, the champion at the local Medieval tournament. And Joe gets a few photos of the ROG in action which he'd certainly never share with the Watchers (but might just threaten to do  )

Slashfic turned me off fanfic as a whole. Not that the graphic exploration of homosexuality between otherwise-depicted-as-straight characters doesn't have its place in fandom, it's one of those niche-within-a-niche things that most people don't care for, including myself.

[I know slashfic is more than that to its fans, but few who aren't into it who would agree it is. I digress and am perfectly happy with its purveyors continuing, including a variety of giggling women and gay men whom I've hung out with over the years.]

Anyway, I never read much HL fanfic during the show's run; personally I was more than happy with the exploration of the HL world ON THE SHOW. I do have "Evening At Joe's" though, which is basically fanfic by the show's own writers, actors and crew. That was reasonably entertaining and I'd recommend it if you ever find it in some used bookstore.

I couldn't agree more on the matter of slash! That's why I started this thread. There is indeed some good fanfiction out there, only you have to sift through an awful lot of crap to find it. So I thought a thread with links would perhaps spare other readers part of the quest :)

I have "An Evening at Joe's". Joe himself (aka Jim Byrnes) was sweet enough to sign it for me when I met him a few months ago =) He's such a darling!
The book is out of print and only available second hand. Currently, there are 15 copies on sale at Abebooks: http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?sts=t&tn=an+evening+at+joe%23s , ranging from 1 to 45.60 US$ plus shipping.

What do you think of Peter Wingfield's story about the immortal baby? When I first read it I was rather shocked, but then I thought about the problem again and found that he had indeed a point. Eutanasia is a very controversial topic, though, and I am not sure I would dare myself (or rather consider myself to have the right) to make such a decision. At any rate, for Methos it was very much in character.

I didn't much like Gilian Horvat's Postcard series in that book. While she is very good at describling normal action, she gets way too sappy for my taste when it comes to personal relationships. I very much enjoyed the 10 min film they made of her first story, though. It's on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRGH8_vwAnI
It's still a bit on the sappy side, but Peter Wingfield manages to balance it out very nicely.
