HD-DVD players other than Toshiba?

Toshiba seems to be the only game in town for HD-DVD format players. Anyone know of any other companies that make them?

Not that I'm complaining, really, since their HD-A3 player seems very affordable. Just thought I'd check first.

Right now I'm leaning towards Tosh HD-A3 for HD-DVD, and the Sony BDP-300 for BluRay. (Have just about given up on combo players; the LG one sucks, and the Samsung one is still too far off. Plus, getting two players is cheaper!)

I got the HD-2 for $98, and everyone I've shown it to while watching non-HD DVDs has commented on how much sharper it is than standard DVD players. I'm not worried in the least that its not 1080p. I haven't seen any other HD player brands.

Congratulations--I've heard great things about the HD-A30.

One note though for anyone else reading this thread: Unless you already have or plan to acquire a digital display that has a native vertical display resolution of 1080 pixels, there is no reason why you should spend the extra money it costs to get an HD-DVD player that outputs 1080p versus 1080i. For example, my digital display is only 1280 x 720 resolution (i.e., 720p) so there is no reason for me to worry whether my HD-DVD player can output 1080p or not.

As much as I like HD-DVD, I would hold off on any purchases. If Warner Studios goes Blu-ray, as some rumors are saying, it's game over on the format wars.

They are supposed to announce in early January.

There are a handful of other ones but the Toshiba ones are basically the best... and I think the other manufactures may actually use Toshiba drives too. I have an HD-A2 myself, paid $200 a couple years ago. I'll have a PS3 before long and be "format neutral." Since I use Netflix and i'm not really buying many high def movies (got Planet Earth though), even if HD-DVD loses, I'm only out a couple hundred and I'll still have a superb upscaling DVD player.

I probably would have gone BluRay-exclusive if some of the movies I really wanted, such as Apollo 13 and Transformers, were available in that format. But those films are HD-DVD only, so I had to go format neutral.

The newest model of the PC dual format player from LG is getting great reviews and costs $500. not bad for a blu-ray burner that can also play hd-dvd's.
