Guess the 50 most common words in all of Trek

Ryan8bit

Using the database of all episodes of all series and movies through Star Trek 2009 that I made to figure out who had the most lines in all of Star Trek, I also created a list of the most commonly used words in Trek. This list excludes common words like the, and, I, etc. so it's going to be things more exclusive to Star Trek. It does not exclude ranks and proper nouns though. And certain words were grouped together (eg, attack, attacks, attacked, attacking, attacker, etc).

So to have a twist here, I thought I'd make this into a game where people can try and guess the top 50 words, and I'll post an updated list as the answers come in. So give me your best guesses!

The list:

I'll update the list in bunches. I won't be able to edit this first post after a day though, so any after that I'll just post.

EDIT: This is just the first round of guesses. After the 24 hour edit limit expires I'll just post the list further down. The number next to each word/variation is how many times that occurred in all of Trek. And then the name of the poster to guess it first. 17 down, 33 to go!

'Anomaly' has to be one.

Others:

*'Landing Party'
*'Away Team'
*'Fire!'
*'Captain!'
*'Stardate'

Red
Alert
Shields
Up
Evasive
Maneuvers

Are we counting articles like "the" and "a"?

Bridge
Engineering
'Mr'(?)
Ensign
[On] Screen
Hail[ing]
Engage!
Warp
Lieutenant
Log!

Probably gone for too many there :p

If you had not excluded rank and proper nouns, I would expect Captain and Enterprise to be very high on the list. But otherwise...

alien
warp
planet
ship
star
phasers
contact
time
attack

Surprisingly, anomaly wasn't even in the top 100. And I didn't look for word pairs, so landing party/away team weren't really factored. The word team alone was #68 though. Also it's surprising that stardate didn't quite make it (#83).

Fire and Captain were sure bets though. Those are #47 and #1 respectively. You got the top spot.

Enterprise

#8.

Starfleet
Warp
Sensors
Doctor
Transporter

Warp is #10, sensors #30, doctor #4, and transporter #18. Good guesses!

Red
Alert
Shields
Up
Evasive
Maneuvers

Articles aren't counted. I also think I discounted words that might be too common like red or up.

Alert was close, but didn't quite make the top 100. Evasive and Maneuvers were surprisingly far down, and shields is #34.

Bridge
Engineering
'Mr'(?)
Ensign
[On] Screen
Hail[ing]
Engage!
Warp
Lieutenant
Log!

Eh, it's not too many, although maybe at first we can keep from doing a ton. I'm sure we'll get to the end and have troubles with a few of these, but I'll probably give hints. People at that point will probably rattle off a ton.

Bridge is #23, Engineering (and engine derivatives) is #17, Ensign didn't quite make it at #57, screen is actually pretty far down, hail (and derivatives) was also actually surprisingly down, same for engage. Warp was already guessed, lieutenant is #14, and log is #41.

I think I cut mister out because it appeared in some list of the top 500 most common words. It did seem kind of generic, but it did have a pretty high count.

Not a bad one, but #86.

Six
Seven
Eight
Nine
Point
Five
Sir
Battle
CCs
Dead
Phaser
Emitter
Deck
Beam

Numbers and dead are too common. Sir is #3 and beam is #25, so good job on those. Battle, CC, emitter, didn't make the list. Phaser was actually #60, and deck #66.

If you had not excluded rank and proper nouns, I would expect Captain and Enterprise to be very high on the list. But otherwise...

alien
warp
planet
ship
star
phasers
contact
time
attack

I didn't exclude proper nouns actually, including names.

Planet is #13, ship and variants is #2. Attack is #46, and contact was close at #62. The others were not on the list, guessed already, or too common.

Aye, it is. #27.

I'll update the list shortly. EDIT: first post updated.

Nobody's said Commander yet, that's an easy one.

Mark
Lock
Data
Spock
Pattern
Offline
Percent
Human
Klingon
Quadrant

Can we offer phrases also?

"Some sort of" or "some kind of" - if memory serves, these were used a lot in Voyager to keep the anomaly of the week generic.
