Good bye Maximilian Schell

Rest in Peace.

Also in Deep Impact and numerous other films.

He won the Oscar for Best Actor in Judgment at Nuremberg.

Rest in peace. He was great in every movie and tv show that I saw him in. Just finished watching him in Wiseguy . He played a Cuban money launderer for the Columbian drug cartel.

RIP Max...

Something I always thought a bit weirdy: in The Black Hole, Maximilian Schell plays a character who ends up spending eternity...in Maximilian's shell. That CANNOT have been a coincidence.

Well, for myself, I only know him as Dr. Hans Reinhardt, but that also means he was an indelible part of my childhood so I am saddened by the loss.

Not to mention Maximilian's hell.

It would be interesting since that ending is so out there to wonder if that was always written to be that way or not.

That transition from German to English in "Judgment," with the zoom-in on Schell, is so memorable, that's the first thing I always remember about him. His whole performance was brilliant, though. Cross of Iron, A Bridge Too Far, he was always quality. RIP.

The original novel had something completely different, something about the surviving crew members becoming one with the universe...

And, IIRC, the angel we see flying through 'Heaven' is actually the soul of Frank McCrae (Kate's father, who led the mutiny against Dr. Reinhardt, and whose mind was eventually used for the AI of Maximilian).

Fantastic actor. I loved him in many roles, but my favorite will always be as Dr. Hans Reinhardt from The Black Hole.

Rest in peace, sir.

Like Peter O'Toole, handsome as frak when young. Like Max Von Sydow, imbued even darkest characters with sympathy. Man In The Glass Booth is one of the great performances. A loss to cinema and TV, along with his sister Maria Schell.

RIP sir :(. I heard about him from a friend who had seen some of his films and I saw him in Judgement at Nuremburg. A very good actor. Condolences to his family and friends.
