When I was a kid, I had G1 Menasor, and only one component of Puzzler, the GoBots' first gestalt toy.
On the basis of the toys alone, which do you prefer -- Puzzler or Menasor?
GoBots got a somewhat deserved bad rep in the '80s for being what Clerks II called "the Kmart version" of Transformers. Many of the GoBots toys simply didn't seem as cool as the Transformers. I suspect GoBots' lack of an ongoing animated cartoon helped to fuel that perception, but who knows?
In any case, while I have a stronger sentimental attachment to Transformers, and by extension, Menasor, I always thought that Menasor was the crappiest of the gestalt characters. His arms were just... cars with fists sticking out of the taillights. His body only looked like a body because it had so many snap-on accessories.
Puzzler won't win any bot beauty contests either, but at least he didn't need snap-on feet, hands, face, chestplate, and codpiece. He didn't need any snap-on parts, which was quite a feat for gestalt robot toys of the '80s.
Although on the whole, I'll probably always prefer Transformers to GoBots, I think I like Menasor and Puzzler about equally.
So what say you? Only on the basis of the toys, which do you prefer, and why?
