Fifth Doctor companions reunited for Audio

Big Finish has just announced the upcoming release of three new Fifth Doctor audio dramas. Nothing unusual about that as Peter Davison has been reprising Five for the last decade. But these new ones will also feature Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, Mark Strickson and Turlough and, most surprisingly, Janet Fielding will be returning as Tegan. I say surprisingly as Fielding has in the past been reluctant to revisit Tegan and when she did so for a rather somber Big Finish audio a few years back it was promoted as a one-off. So it's great to see the "Mawdryn Undead"-era team back again.

One of the stories is apparently a sequel to the Snakedance/Kinda storyline:

You will need to cut-and-paste that link as the ! is part of the URL but isn't being hotlinked for some reason.

The press release also announces a multi-Doctor story is in the works...

I'm still surprised no one over at Star Trek has thought of doing whole hog into these audios. People keep wanting to have Shatner back as Kirk, and the others -- these audios are the way to go, in my opinion.

This news would be more exciting if the fifth Doctor didn't have such an abysmal group of companions.

The Mara story might be interesting, though.

I really like the fifth Doctor's companions-- Tegan is one of my favorites, Nyssa has decently redeemed herself on audio, and Turlough is always good for a laugh. I'm really looking forward to this, even I already liked Cobwebs when Jonathan Morris called it Festival of Death.

It's a matter of taste. Lots of people consider this (or at least Five-Nyssa-Tegan) a classic line-up.

I'm definitely getting at least the Whispering Forest audio which also features Hayley Atwell of The Duchess, Cassandra's Dream and The Prisoner 2009 fame.

Definitely a classic line-up for me, I might break the habit of a lifetime and actually buy an audio or two...

Worth it for Davison and Fielding alone really.

I've been looking forward to this for awhile now.

However, I do wonder how they're going to handle the fact during this time Turlough is still under the thumb of the Black Guardian and being forced to attempt to kill The Doctor.

This seems to be somewhat old news to me, but it's good to see the official announcement. I'm not sure if I'll get any of these new stories, but it's still cool that Janet Fielding is coming back. I had gotten her previous outing "The Gathering," but it kinda let me down a bit as far as a Doctor/Tegan story went.
