Fargo, season 2

Okay, then.

So, who's watching? That first episode was great--not quite the hook that season 1 had, but we have a connection already there with the sheriff and his family. I already feel at home with these people.

Terrific cast! Patrick Wilson is perfect as the young sheriff; I can see a little of Keith Carradine in him. Jean Smart as the Mob Mother (Floyd?) is clearly the brains of the outfit, and the Kristen Dunst character is a creepy mix of utter selfishness and sly manipulation.

Can't wait for the next episode!

Okay, then? Okay then.

That was a really, really good season premiere. The cast so far is fantastic, and so was the whole diner scene especially. I think they somehow managed to capture the essence of 1979 Minnesota/South Dakota in its entirety. :D

Really looking forward to see how this plays out over the next nine episodes.

I hope this threads lack of activity isn't indicative of how everyone with access to the show feels about this one.

I was afraid I wouldn't care for this one as much as the first, but the premier blew me away.

Really strong first episode and great cast.
I know it's probably far too early but I'm already trying to think of where they would go in season 3 (hopefully there'll be one).

The premiere wasn't as clear as the first season's as it was hard to tell who would be a main character. In season 1 it was clear from early in the first episode that Lester and Malvo were going to the ones that drove the story. In contrast, it looks like the Blomquists will be playing that role this season, and they barely had any presence in the episode until near the end.

This isn't exactly a criticism, It's good when shows don't follow convention all the time. But I feel I need to see the second episode before I'll be able to properly engage with this season.

Season two looks like it is going to be great. I love the 70's style split-screens, the link to the previous season (a six-year old Molly!) and the casting of so many familiar faces...can't wait until the next episode.

It hooked me as quickly as the first season. The misdirection about whom you thought would be a central character was really nicely done. I like the dynamics of the crime family organizations; there were hints of it last season, too, and I think it will be interesting. It also reminded me a little of Justified, and, speaking of, I think the voice sounded like Adam Arkin as a mob boss again.

I don't know what to make of the opening and the UFO. Is "waiting for Dutch" literally waiting for Ronald Reagan to close out the dark years of the 1970s? It feels like they will look at the "downer" side of the decade, not the good times, disco pants and haircuts. And UFOs were huge back then. I can't wait to see more.

Some very Coen bros. moments. The surprise-the-victim's-not-dead-yet moment has been a favorite of theirs clear back to Blood Simple. And chasing the victim into the snow refers back to the movie Fargo, of course. Michael Hogan as Pop Gerhardt was a dead ringer for Harve Presnell in the movie.

One minor correction to the OP: Solverson is a state trooper (and does that maroon cop car and uniform stand out!) and Ted Danson is with the sheriff's office, and I think is himself the sheriff. In rural communities the different agencies tend to back each other up regardless of jurisdiction because they are spread so thin.

Just watched last night's episode. WOW--that was a great episode.

Seriously, who takes a body in through the FRONT DOOR?!?! What was he thinking?? Very nervous for him when the deputy came in.

The tension is already palpable. I can't wait to see more!

Points off the second episode from me.

The mob plot was fine, as was the one dealing with the body disposal but it seems unlikely those cops were so incompetent not to find the gun during the initial investigation, especially when they did notice a fricken shoe in a fricken tree! Either very sloppy police work or writing.

Second, the acting of the guy leading the search for their missing man was sooo lame. The scene with him and the cop at the roadblock was excruciating!

My initial fears for this one may soon be fully realized.

So far I've only seen episode 1.

Did anyone else think for a second that it was Matt Damon but fat? No, it's Todd from Breaking Bad. I always thought he looked like Matt Damon.

First episode is more faithful to the 'These events actually happened but the names were changed' conceit than the first season. Far more believable as real life events.

Tonight....Holy Fuck, what a horribly disturbing death. :ack:

For some reason, that bothered me far more than anything that happened at the Waffle House.

Great scene in the typewriter store and the Gerhardt ranch meeting said a lot--how much power they had and who really had the most influence.

I also love how Peggy & Ed couldn't even stage a car crash correctly. Their complete stupid-craziness makes a nice contrast between the two sides: the crime families and the police.

Agreed, not a nice way to go.
Another strong episode. Jeffrey Donovoan is great/scary as Dodd. Peggy and Ed are a lot of fun in their criminal incompetence, so many face-palm inducing moments.:D

Poor Skip the Selectric salesman. Reminded me of Herb from WKRP in Cincinatti, and I'll miss him. Seems like the females are a little sharper than most of the males in this show. I enjoy the quirkiness of this show - humorous people/situations juxtaposed with horrific violence. And always the accent, Jeez don't ya know.

Another great episode.

So..Dar was a psycho right from the start, then. And Dar's daughter with Milligan? Did NOT see that coming.

Pretty brutal scene at the doctor's office; yikes.

Loved that the Deputy Lou figured out what really happened. Peggy & Ed are in for some truly scary stuff.
