"On April 14, 2011, Encyclopædia Dramatica was replaced by Oh Internet, a "sanitized"[1] version of ED.[1] Sherrod DeGrippo's reasoning was that "Shock for shock’s sake is old at this point and we're looking forward to the future and how things are evolving... when you put user experience first, the language becomes highly important and that's what we’ve done.""

I'm a little shocked, what was the point of cleaning up ED? I looked up 2 topics I had recently read about on ED.. one of them no longer exists and the other has gone from the usual sprawling volumes of lies, sex and fecal hilarity to a dry little definition. With no pictures. IOW useless, containing no drama and no internet soap opera history.

Encyclopedia Dramatica said that "shock for shock's sake is old?" Wow. The Apocalypse is upon us.

Or maybe the Internet is growing up.

Nah, the Apocalypse is upon us.

Eh. I really like the idea of something that is totally un-PC, but I never really thought ED was all that clever in its writing. Shock for shock sake actually got old quite awhile ago so a lot of the people trying to do it since then never realized how obvious a lot of their approach was.

I didn't read it for the shock (which was schlock) but for teh dramaz. Look up any internet subculture, forum, notable.. and all the dramaz and scandals would be there.

Yes, it had it's uses but it was difficult for me to get over all the disgusting racism and homophobia to get to the real content.

ED was over the top, but it did have it's moments. My favourite was probably the article on the country of Andorra, which was written almost entirely about Andoria instead.

I guess you've got to be involved with some of the 4Chan communities to get some of the humor. To most of us it seems Racist and Homophobic, but consider that many of these people actually campaign against such issues in their own unique way, I guess maybe its not as if it would first seem.

Funny, cause just a day or two ago I visited the Encyclopedia Dramatica page on Ayn Rand, LINK and it worked just fine. In fact, I just re-visited the link as a test, hit the "main page" button, and arrived at a page that says...

Welcome to the new Encyclopedia Dramatica,
... and nothing of value was lost.
9,640 articles since April 15th, 2011[/quote]

ETA: Judging from the above date, it looks like "Oh Internet" lasted as much as a whole day, before EA made its big comeback. (I now see Peak noticed as well.)
