Dynaverse.net announces Star Trek : Starfleet Command 4

Newbie
We at Dynaverse.net are now in beginning stages of developing Star Trek : Starfleet Command 4.

Dynaverse.net is the home for the Starfleet Command games and Starfleet command game support. We started as a branch of Taldren Software Incorporated, which created the Starfleet Command game series (Taldren was 14 Degrees East before splitting off from Interplay). Taldren gave us all materials and permissions for the Starfleet Command game series as well as Activision releasing the Starfleet Command 3 directory servers to us.. we now host all the Starfleet Command Dynaverse directory servers (and yes the Dynaverse for the games work, you just have to get the latest patches and the Directory serve fix files for the respective games). We also support all SFC games.

Currently, Dynaverse is not recommended for Vista users due to incompatibilities with how the game engine uses DirectX 8 through Vista's networking, however the issue is being worked on. For those who have Vista, it is recommended to follow my guide for Dual Booting your computer with XP so that you have backward program compatibility. You can find the guide in the Engineering section of www.dynaverse.net.

Anyhow, back to the topic at hand, We are in the initial development stages for a new game.. Starfleet Command 4.

I will just open by saying this is probably the post many have been waiting for a long time to see.

I'm proud to officially announce the launching of the Starfleet Command 4 project. The D.net staff has been working hard setting up the resources, drawing up the paperwork, getting the development machine ready.

The next step is getting the word out to the whole community. To get the project off the drawing board and into production, we need people: programmers, modelers, artists, campaign designers. One thing I know not many have thought about, but we also need people with skills in sound design and composition; they would be a huge asset.

If you would like to help out with this project, please fill out the form below and submit it to me at Braxton@xenocorp.net All information is required. Your name and address will be kept confidential and are only required to send the required paperwork.

The current plans on the table have the project being written in either C++ or C#, so programmers who would like to join the team must be fluent with the C/C++ language.

Please note that anyone doing any work will be required to sign:

1.) An NDA
2.) A non-compete agreement

and will release any intellectual property rights to their code, artwork, or anything else contributed to the Dynaverse Gaming Association.

This is standard stuff if your a dev in a company, which the DGA is.

and before anyone goes ballistic or gets crazy - this will be released without a single CHARGE. Once it's done, we'll be releasing it to the community for no cost.

Now, if you get so happy you want to make a donation to help out, by all means, you should know where the link is

but I'm not going to post it here because that's not what this is about.

Hope that this is good news for you all. We will attempt to give you the best Star Trek Realtime Tactical Strategy Simulator that current technology can provide. The game will be a Stand Alone game based off the Starfleet Command II : Empires at War / Orion Pirates game engine (heavily modified and modernized) with lots of Micromanagement if you like that, or you can use an adapted Starfleet Command 3 interface for the Basic controls which we will incorporate into the game.

My dreams have been answered...the Andromidan invasion..the Tholians may be added..I'm waiting on this puppy...

I would also like to let you all know that this is a community driven project.. we have the gamers brainstorming on our forum as well as our development team brainstorming ideas..

Everyone is welcome to join in the process.. Just remember this is based on the Starfleet Command II game engine.

If you want to see what ideas are going on, make comments, and share ideas.. please pop on by to http://dynaverse.net/forum/

We have a section labeled Starfleet Command 4 and inside in the Development (Public) area where we are going to take many ideas.. One of those ideas could be yours.

This is a game being created by the community.. as Interplay's logo use to say - 'For Gamers By Gamers'

If you have Programming skills, 3D modeling skills, artistic talent, etc.. please feel free to put in an application.. we will be taking applications indefinately for this project.

So what's the licensing on the material passed down like? Basically you can do anything with it except sell it? Any plans to ditch DirectX for OpenGL? Native builds for OS' other than Windows?

This would be pretty cool if SC4's development community shapes up like the FreeSpace Open project.

Dynaverse.net is not just a fan site.. we are a registered Non Profit Organization as recognized by the state law of Texas. All SFC Rights, licensing, and Intellectual Property was transfered to Dynaverse.net by Taldren Software Inc. prior to their closing. Other licensing information needs to be asked by email to FA_Frey_XC, owner of Dynaverse.net, at Frey@xenocorp.net.

I hope it works out. I was a big fan of the SFC series, even SFC3 which most people hated.

Given that this is a giveaway fan project, I assume that all the people you're trying to recruit (programmers, designers, etc) would be working for free?

Correct.. as I stated it is fan driven.. We are pulling talent from the community that are willing to donate their time to make the best game possible.. however the end product would look very nice to a major gaming company, such as Blizzard or UbiSoft, on the resume.

As a side note, we have made contact with some former Taldren employees who are looking into trying to retireve Dev notes from the previous titles, which in turn will help guide the current project, that is if the Docs still exist.

On another good note.. we have people from Sony coming over to help with the Graphics engine development as well as Rick Knox who worked on Armada and Armada II and made many fan created models for the SFC series (which are available for DL through Dynaverse.net and BattleClinic). He also had a hand in TWOK CGI, IIRC for the remastered version.

This is great news, and I wish you folks the best of luck on it! I'm a gib fan of the Starfleet Command series, especially Orion Pirates. Good luck again, and thanks for taking on this endeavour! I look forward to seeing the results!

OK.. we have ADB wrapped up. ADB is the makers of Starfleet Battles.. The root of the SFC game series.. as posted on the ADB boards :

this is near the bottom..

After a few years of no new SFC games, Dynaverse.net recently announced the new SFC4.
Dynaverse is actually making the game (Taldren and Interplay are no longer around), but it won't be sold for profit. Just a fan-made game, based off of the released EAW source code. Hopefully, things like plasma bolts and Tholians will make it in
There are some Dynaverse.net discussions and a new forum for the subject.

Tell them to drop me a line to get whatever permission slips they need.

Steve Cole owns ADB. This is thanks to one of our community members. He beat me to posting there.. I had this on my agenda for tomorrow. :)

If they'd only drop the RTS/clickfest element from the SFC line, they'd be perfect for us old SFB'ers!

Coolness.

Here's hoping they add Omega and Magellanic factions into the mix!

(Most likely not, but a man can dream...)

Rick Knox is a legend, some of his model add-ons for games like armada and Bridge commander were legendary....you certainly have some gifted people helping you.

Good luck.

I would still love to see it more like the original game of Starfleet Battles myself. I don;t see why it can't be made to be that way.

But I do enjoy SFC. It's a great game.
