Dr. Selar was an interesting character

Agenda

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
They should have developed her more and maybe had her take over in Season 2 instead of Pulaski.

Clearly it works for me, too. I mean...look at me! Look! ;)

It's hard to say from just one episode, and I personally rather liked Crusher and (to a lesser extent) Pulaski. But she was great in that one episode. Suzie Plakson is fab, anyway.

Hm. I don't remember her doing too terribly much...though I do try to push Schizoid Man out of my memory (I think that was the ep, anyway). But even if that's the case, very few people wouldn't be better than Pulaski, and I would've completely endorsed this change.

What's interesting about Selar is she became a frequently referenced member of the Enterprise crew after her one appearance - going all the way up until season seven with being referenced. Apparently there was a scene planned for her in AGT but it was cut.

I'd have been happy to see Selar as a recurring guest. She was intended to come back originally, although I heard a rumour that it was as a possible love interest for Worf - what a terrible idea!

I've often wondered why Enterprise D had no chief science officer. I know Data filled that function in the plot but who was the actual crewman that held the title? I thought making Selar a medical doctor made her rather superfluous unless they did it just in case Diana Muldaur was unavailable for a few episodes.

I was more disappointed that Brooke Bundy didn't appear more often as the chief engineer in season one - I mean McDougal(?) was dumb - but featuring older women in positions of authority is a rarity in Trek and replacing her with several different men instead shifted the male/female balance out of whack. I think it was because Brooke wasn't available to return but I'd have liked it if she'd been given the chance to redeem herself.

Am I the only one who thinks Suzie Plakson made an incredibly sexy Vulcan?

I agree that she was hot. But correct me if I'm wrong -- beside Mark Lenard (who had "personality" in his portrayal of Sarek), most other actors playing Vulcans were poor, robotic imitations of Nimoy.

I must disagree. Personally, I thought Tim Russ did a great job with Tuvok. Also, I agree on Suzie Plakson being very attractive

She did come off a bit stiff, but that easily could have changed if she had had time to develop her charactor. Maybe the producers just didn't want a semi-major vulcan charactor on the show.

I actually like Tuvok only because as far as I can tell (haven't seen many episodes of Voyager), his character is basically little more than an impression of Spock, and I find that cute. It's the same way I felt about Ewan McGregor when I saw him playing Obi-Wan, where he was clearly just doing his best impression of Alec Guinness. That's kind of a back-handed compliment I guess, because I agree he's not much more than a Nimoy imitation, but I think it's a good one.

Obviously, at least 5 other people agree.

I've only seen the first 2 seasons of Voyager, but as far as I can see, Tuvok is nothing like Spock, which is exactly why the character works for me. He seems to be closer to what an average Vulcan would be like, without Spock's troubled nature, dry wit, humor, or constant overstating ofhis alleged lack of emotion. I can't see him constantly bickering and exchanging funny quips with someone the way Spock did with McCoy.

Suzie Plakson was an incredibly sexy Vulcan AND Klingon. I wish she had been use alot more. She is awesome.

She is an excellent actress. However, her very distinctive voice often takes me "out of the scene" and in my opinion she was used to portray too many characters. Same with Jeffrey Combs (whom I also love -- but Shran always sounded too much like Weyoun for me.)

I didn't think she was a bad Andorian either. Didn't she play one on Enterprise?

I enjoyed her greatly in the sitcom "Love and War," where she was seen without any alien makeup, in her full and glorious self. In fact when I met her at a con, I talked with her about the sitcom rather than Trek. She seemed to appreciate the change.
