Another compelling episode.

I never liked the character of Takila Mak, or all his Time Lord like attributes (one of which- regeneration- popped up in this ep), but I'm not completely happy that he was killed.

I guess I'll feel better about it when 1) his death starts to make sense in the continuing storyline, and 2) when he STAYS dead (because so few in Sci Fi ever do).

Interesting that they're using robots on the Enterprise. Robots are kind of anathema to Trek- it's the HUMAN adventure- but I think in a devastated post- Federation world they would have to start using them again.

Thank you very much. Definitely looking forward to next ep!

Did I miss it when they mentioned the robots previously - because I wondered for a moment, when we first heard it, whether that was the new Low-Fi EMH.

Lost Frontier sets a great standard for all of us doing audio productions. I've never been a big fan of apocolyptic sci-fi, but the scripts, acting and overall production are so good that I really got sucked in. By the way, Eric, congratulation on having the good sense to bring in Eleiece Krawiec from Straship Excelsior on board. She's a terrific talent!

I don't really see LF as apocalyptic. For me its more.... About rebuilding the dream after everything has fallen apart.

If a persons dream is noble and strong enough it can overcome any adversity.... Even the end of everything one holds dear.

The Federation as it was is gone. Now is the task of rebuilding what it TRULY meant.... Not that I plan for that to be easy for the crew of the Enterprise.

Too easy would be no fun! Make 'em work for it, I say!

It was one of the reason I decided to remove Mak from the series. Sadly over the years Mak has become too much of a Mary Sue character to be believable anymore. Do not get me wrong I like him. But I think the warning signs came when he was able to kill things with nothing but a playing card. And he was the best at everything, the unstoppable killing machine. The greatest of all Starfleet legends..... All the women wanted him and all the guys wanted to be him.....

He way overshadowed the other characters and sadly did not fit in. I had planned for in the second season for him to start discovering things about himself. Like he was not the last of the Novachron. And the reason he could not find his homeworld was because he may not have been the hero he thought he was all this time. He might have been the greatest monster of their race.

But it was made very clear to me that I was not going to be allowed to do that with this the character. Indeed a lot of condition came attached to his further involvement in the series. So after a lot of chatting with other I decided to remove him.

There are NO plans to bring Mak back into this series.

Still I hear wind that he will more than likely turn up in a BrokenSea production entitled The Mak Chronicles.

I sort of have to agree with the concern that LF was turning into the Mak show, given that once he made his debut in Season 1, the other characters got very little personal advancement (and whatever advancement that was, for the lower deck characters at least, was related to how they felt about Mak) which was disappointing.

However, if you'd managed to somehow balance letting the new characters of LF tell a story - and tied in your plans for Mak - that might have been a good move. As it is now, it seems like we built up a storyline (Trask pretty much seemed to say that commanding the E was dependant on being able to recruit Mak) and then just tossed it away.

Unfortunate, yes, but it happens in real shows all the time when actors leave their job. However, hopefully we can explore that through this new Novacron character we've got running about.

I'm not sure I can believe Winfred working for S31 either, though.

I have noticed that. For a long time now I've likened how his character has been handled to the way Marvel has whored out Wolverine over the last several years.

That aside, however, I do have a question. At the end of each episode Mark or Seth will announce "This episode was written by Eric Busby." Who created him? I was under the impression that he was a character you created for The Section 31 Files.

Kate Niles' temper grows stale after awhile too. I know this is supposed to be dark and bleak and depressing, but even she should be able to actually have a good moment here and there. Its hard to like her when she's so negative all the time.

As ever Mark Bruzee is excellent and I find I like Trask more and more with each episode, and Winifred less and less  Also, Elie is great as Zog.

As for this episode, I have to admit I groaned at first when I heard the "Q" flash sound effect and it turned out, indeed to be Q... but I'll reserve judgment til the next episode is released. I did like the idea of the second Novachron working for Section 31 but again, I'm struggling to figure out the motivation behind assassinating Mak. Further, is "Agent Bishop" (as referenced in the end credits) the same Bishop from The Section 31 Files?

Mak was created by Mark A Kalita... Thus you see how the name M.A.K came into being. During my time as writer or Section 31, Mark gave me the thumbs up to use him in my stories. For a time all was well I enjoyed the use of Mak as I saw him.

However my take on Mak and Mark's is somewhat different. And sadly it came to an impasse on how I could use him in the future of Lost Frontier.

Thus for the time being he is no longer part of this series.

However I do believe there are plans to bring him back in a Broken Sea audio Production called the Mak Chronicles.

First of all, Eric, thanks for responding! I understand now. I figured Takila Mak was an anagram for Mark Kalita, and I had inferred what you just said, I just didn't want to let said inference take the place of fact in my mind.

As ever, keep up the excellent work!

Funny thing about Mark is I like the guy a lot. He's been a good friend in years gone by. But I understand his reason for needing to do his own thing these days.

Oh totally. As a writer I get that. Sometimes its harder to see the possibilities a character can have if its too close to you. It strikes me that Mak is very important to Mark (as he should be) and I respect his decision... just sad Mak is gone from LF.

Oh indeed. Its one of the reason I only trust a few to use my character in other productions. Like Korg and Bishop have turned up in Hidden Frontier series and I have every faith in Rob Cave when he uses them.

However by that same measure I no longer let Star Trek Defiant/Pendant Productions use any of my characters. The one time they did use one of them (Bishop) the only request I had was they did not kill him because I had plans for him in some of my series....

Only to discover they killed him off anyways.... Only to be told they could not find anyone to act for him... A production group of a few hundred people and they could not find anyone to act for him.....

It boggles the mind.

I can see why you would be extra-protective, as obviously Mark is.

I guess my only question left for you is, "Was Korg named after an audio mixer?"

;)

No. Korg was named after a character I use to role play in the old Star Trek RPG from back in the 80s. I created a Klingon NPC who turned up in a number of my campaigns.
