Does this theme work for the Dominion both in the Alpha Quadrant and the Gamma Quadrant? It describes a Dominion fleet but does it describe the cruel iron foot and machinal order and quiet and constant Dominion expansion of that quiet that takes place in the Gamma Quadrant?

It’s a conquest theme, since the whole context for that theme is the Dominion advancing on DS9. Parts of the theme would work to produce a more quieter version of the theme, particularly from 1:00 to 1:23 and 1:48 to 2:06, for the expansion that occurs solely in the Gamma Quadrant.

It's not their national anthem. They don't play this on Dominion Day when they're sitting around necking glasses of tulaberry wine. It's just background music. I'm sure Jay Chattaway could knock up a theme for a more sinister lowkey everyday Dominion.

Does it work for the Dominion both in the AQ and the GQ?

How would I know? Seems to me that if I were a Jem'Hadar I would very soon have enough of this theme, if it blared over the speakers of the ship every time we took it into a fight.
And if I were a Vorta, it probably would be worse still. Those fellows are reported to have very keen hearing after all.

Definitely a dark musical theme….reminds me of Sibelius at his gloomiest.

With the Cardassian occupation of Bajor, it seems there’s an intended parallel to the holocaust. Wonder what the Dominion was supposed to represent - any authoritarian regime? The antithesis of the Federation - a conglomerate held together by fear rather than cooperation? The old U.S.S.R.? Or maybe the writers wanted to avoid any comparison to earth history, making the changelings an unimaginably different species?

Any outside authoritarian regime. Native Americans occupied by the United States, France occupied by Germany in WW II, India occupied by Britain, Czechoslovakia and Poland by the USSR....
