Dexter should have ended with Season 2... **SPOILERS**

Joe Washington

Dexter and his Big Bads will always be fascinating characters to watch but since Season 2, cop characters like Deb, LaGuerta, and Angel have undergone a steady decline to the point of being nearly unwatchable. Season 2 was a time in which they were interesting in some way and more sympathetic to us with Deb's struggle to adjust to life after the Ice Truck Killer, LaGuerta's struggle to keep Doakes from going over the edge professionally and later to prove his innocence, Angel being framed for something he didn't do prompting Deb and Dexter to help him out, etc. Even Rita was more interesting of a character back then with her growing a backbone in her relationship with Dexter and her relationship with her mother.

Season 4 had Trinity killer. So no, it shouldn't have ended with season 2.

erm NO :p

Dexter fanbase has been growing season by season, the critics love it, we all love it. How season 4 finished proves there is much life in Dexter and expect it to be round for at least one more season after the current 5th one :techman:

But that's because of the multilayered Dexter character and he going through the consequences of his actions. All the other characters are so wrapped up in melodrama and weak, overdone plotlines.

I don't think there are overdone plotlines. And even though the supporting characters might not be as 'multilayered' as Dexter they serve their purposes. Naturally Dexter has to be the most complex character on the show. Not only is he the main character with a dark past, he has emotional problems and he has difficulties with his environment in a way that he always has to pretend to fit in. Not to mention that he is a killer. And you've got only 45 minutes to tell the tale, so the other characters get less screentime and therefore less time for complex storyarchs. However, I disagree that they are weak or wrapped up in melodrama. What makes you think so?

Debra is actually my favourite character. I like it that she has the gift of gab and how she deals with Dexter.

In your opinion...stopped watching then unless you already have.

Dexter is the best show on TV at the moment IMO and has been since Boston Legal went off the air. The show like all maybe can get the melodrama a bit wrong here and their but for the most part Dexter is a wonderful, character driven, well written show.

It hasn't been perfect, but neither were the first couple seasons either.

And yes, I still love Deb.

I'm very happy with the progression of the series, and think that season 4 was the best season to date. So no, I do not wish that the series had ended after season 2. Dexter is a fascinating, multi-layered character and it's been a pleasure to watch his development over the years.

I know I'm in the minority but I actually like the LaGuerta-Batista ship.

Debra is a great character too. The actress who plays her (sorry I forget her name) has a really unique look to her too and is a lot of fun to watch.

No, the show must go on until Dexter is exposed at the very least to significant loved ones (now down to Deb, Astor and Cody) if not the world.

The Jimmy Smits storyline was a bit ridiculous, but other than that the show has been fantastic. I think one more season after 5 should do it.

The only problem with the show is the deadly dull stuff between LaGuerta and Batista. They need to give those two some more interesting storylines. I love Deb and her foul mouth. I  when she swears like a sailor.

What if Dexter ended after Season 3 instead? Ahhhh. Pretty interesting premise huh? I think I'll start a thread about it!

Not if I start my thread about how it should have ended 23 minutes into the fourth episodes of season 3 first!

Season 3 was kind of shitty but season 4 was the best of the series with by far the best villain. John Lithgow's Trinity is one of the best bad guy portrayals in TV history.

^ I've never understood the hate for season 3 on this board, I've not encountered it else where on the net in such a degree. I loved Jimmy Smits in season 3 and the relationship between him and Dexter. Also this is where the code began to break down for Dexter with him taking the life on an innocent. Season 3 also took Dexter to new heights in viewership/fanbase, which was carried over into the record breaking season 4 so it couldn't of been that bad.

Season 3 cemented Dexter as one of my favourite shows on TV/all time and Dexter has been my number 1 show since 2009 with the ending of Boston Legal.

I just started getting into Dexter since it was available on Netflix. Since I started watching it I went out and bought DVDs for Seasons 3 and 4, which were not on Netflix. After we finished those we signed up for Showtime. (Mostly because it was part of a better Dish package) I think that Dexter is a really good show, but I am dissapointed that the writers dumped Julie Benz from the cast.

She wasn't dumped from the cast. She will still appear in flashbacks and/or visions that Dexter is having.

I've never really talked about Dexter on TrekBBS I didn't even know that was a trend. Everyone I know IRL feels the same way. Not saying it was like awful, just not up to the standard the show set for itself.
