The in-demand actors have closed deals to co-star in the 1960s-set CBS TV Studios drama based on the true story of Ralph Lamb, a rodeo cowboy-turned-longtime sheriff in Las Vegas, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Quaid will star as Ralph Lamb in the period piece, while Chiklis will play Johnny Savino, a Chicago mob fixer whose entrepreneurial vision for transforming Las Vegas collides with Sheriff Lamb's law-and-order mandate.

The casting alone probably pushes this show to the front of the line, but since it's CBS there's a possibility that this could end up being another generic crime drama for them. Or if it's unique, it won't fit in with anything else in their lineup (except possibly Person of Interest) and becomes early toast.

If they can make the episodes slightly procedural, that could help it, IMO.

sounds a bit like the old 80s series Crime Story.

With those two in the lead, this demands to be watched.

Yep. With a smattering of Justified. Still, with Quaid and Chiklis in the leads and the involvement of Nicholas Pileggi and James Mangold, this sounds like something to look forward to.

The show sounds like it has potential. I've learned most everything really comes down to execution but it has solid building blocks.

If only CBS had one or two of those, they'd be huge!
