I just finished off the DVDs for S1 of Damages. I generally don't go for lawyer shows but that was exceptionally well written and acted. Especially Glen Close, wow!
One quibble - in the final episode, Ellen used the tape to twist Patty's arm to get the charges against her dropped. But wouldn't the tape have exonerated Ellen anyway, by validating her story that someone else murdered David (for the tape, which was hidden in the apartment, and watching it would tell anyone why it was worth killing for, not to mention the tape was made by someone who had possibly been murdered for the same reason David was - that's reasonable doubt right there).
Maybe Ellen could have threatened to tell the cops about the tape, which would have taken away Patty's ability to use it against Frobisher, but that's not how it was portrayed. That would have been dumb of Ellen, anyway - why put her fate in Patty's hands when she has a way out on her own?
Also, what about David's autopsy? Two professional murders beating up some guy for info will do damage of a type that one petite women couldn't possibly pull off, or even know how to. Can't the cops tell the difference between professionally-inflicted vs. amateur injuries? Or have I been watching too much TV?
And I was expecting Lila to turn out to be working for someone and not just an obsessed stalker. Oh well.
So does this show come back in the summer? Too bad they killed two of my favorite characters (David and Ray Fiske), but I'll check it out for S2.
BTW, David's sister Katie is played by Jamie Bamber's real-life sister. For you BSG fans.
