Cyber Nations

Gryffindorian

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Has anyone heard of or does anyone here play this on-line strategy game? Here's the link: http://www.cybernations.net/default.asp

Basically, it's very similar to NationStates.com, but this is a lot more dynamic and detail-oriented, like a Sim City game. It's almost like a combination of elements in the Civilization game series and Sim City 4 (but CyberNations isn't a simulation game per se). There's warfare as well as managing your government's economy, infrastructure, military, technology, and resources. The gameplay is free; you just register, create your username, password, country and preferences and join groups (alliances).

If you decide to join, feel free to look me up. I'm Gryffindorian and my nation's name is Antares Nova.

Joined, grew, and got jumped one weekend by some clown with an army eight times bigger than mine. Crushed my economy beyond revival. Went into neg numbers and couldn't pay my bills or grow. Sucked.

I get a ton of messages from groups asking me to join them (they're even offering "foreign aid" in the millions and other resources). So far I've joined a small group called the United Federation of Nations. ;)

I wish EA Games would create something like this. I like the political aspect of it, maybe incorporate some aspects of the Sim City games without requiring too much micromanagement.

Play it myself. Proud member of Valhalla.

Nation Leader: MadScotsman
Nation Name: Carolinas

I'm finding that the game concept isn't bad, but the gameplay is kind of ... gay. There are certain elements or factors you need for your country that you can buy (e.g., Land, Military, Technology, Infrastructure), and the revenue comes mostly from the taxes. Maybe some players are lucky enough to get foreign aid from other governments. Technology is very expensive (at least 10,000 points), and buying Military components like Tanks, Cruise Missiles, and Nuclear Weapons cost a lot of points and you'd have to have a certain Technology level (which requires a lot of money) and Infrastructure (which also requires a certain population, Technology level, and money). So all these things are interdependent, but acquiring one thing is almost impossible if you don't have the resources.

I still would like to see EA Games produce something similar (a "Sim Nation" of sorts).

Your alliance members are your best bet for building. In the last great war I went from 7500 infra and 3500 tech to 500 infra and 2000 tech. Just over a month later I am now at 4,779.63 infra. Mainly thanks to fellow Valhallans.
