  • - Toby Gerhart, RB, Stanford
  • - Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama
  • - Colt McCoy, QB, Texas
  • - Ndamukong Suh, DL, Nebraska
  • - Tim Tebow, QB, Florida

Pretty impressive list. The only real problem I have is how so many ballots have already been turned in. A great many voters will have done so without seeing this past weekend's performances, and that hurts Suh and Ingram the most. Both had tremendous game in the most pressure packed games to date, Suh in particular. He nearly single-handedly won that game for Nebraska. Ingram was integral to 'Bama's win as well. And as much as I admire Tebow, I might have taken Houston's Case Keenum or Boise St's Kellen Moore ahead of him.

Personally, were I a voter my ballot would be:

1st - Gerhart
2nd - Suh
3rd - Ingram
4th - McCoy
5th - Tebow

That's pretty much the way I'd rank them as well, except I might flip-flop McCoy and Tebow in the 4/5 positions. Maybe.

Ingram has been great and very important, and it seems he may well be the leader right now. However, he was almost non-existent against Arkansas partly due to injury and his backup playing so well.

McCoy... has had better numbers than Tebow but against decidedly inferior competition. It's hard to know how to place them

But again.... I wish the Downtown Athletic Club would prohibit voters from sending in their ballots before the last game has been played.

Mark Ingram wins the 2009 Heisman award, and I am definitely cool with it. His reaction at winning it and afterwards was priceless. I honestly think he was not expecting to win it and is very humbled by it.

Welllll... not that close. He did finish 4th, nearly 500 points behind 1st. That kind of surprised me that he finished that far back, given the late surge among the sportswriters I keep up with online. I'm betting he was more a victim of those who turned their ballots in early, before that last round of games.

Never even heard of the guy and I watch ESPN every weekend.

Then you must be watching at odd intervals, because they were all over him especially after that Big 12 championship game against Texas. Also of interest is how many of the columnists at SI.com had him #1 on their ballot, not that it's a guarantee of winnign the award
