Chrono Trigger - Level 99

Anyone ever reach level 99 and unlock the hidden boss at the End of Time? I'd read about that recently, and am giving it a go.

Basically I'm running the Black Omen and that first part of the Geno Dome over and over.

I'm doing this on the Playstation version so I probably deserve some kind of medal what with it's loading times and all. :p This would be much easier to do on an emulator.

PS- I'm not sure why but this kind of grindy sub-quest appeals to me. I also beat Dragon Warrior VII using only Monster jobs.

An old friend of mine maxed out at level **, I believe. I don't think he did Black Omen runs over and over...he just loved the game so much that he played it through from top to bottom about...** times. Absolutely nuts, but I can't say I wasn't jealous.

Isn't the hidden boss only in the DS version? I own the PS version of Chrono Trigger, but I don't remember any bonus boss.

OMG I'm done already!

Took me a few hours of grinding the dungeons I mentioned before, but it really wasn't too bad. Compared to some of the World of Warcraft grinds it was pretty easy actually.

Something I stumbled across in a strategy guide that really helped was to put Ayla in the party and equip her with a Berserker relic. The speed boost from Berserker pretty much guarantees you get a first strike and most stuff only dies from one spell, so yeah it sped things up quite a bit.

The first conveyor belt in Geno Dome is definitely the fastest XP/hour. Takes about 4 minutes to clear and yields around 8k experience and you can do it over and over. It's also boring as heck. So I mixed it up with some Black Omen runs. I also listened to NPR for a while near the end.

Spekkio 99 was pretty easy, I just equipped everyone with haste helms and got him in a couple of tries. You have to watch for his attack that reduces everyone to one HP but other than that he's not too bad. I was hoping he'd be harder actually.

Oh well at least I can finally say I've done everything in the original Chrono Trigger now.

PS- the DS version does hold some interest to me but I can never seem to stick to handheld gaming for long. It's those tiny screens. @_@

Yeah, I love the game but stopped the DS version after getting to the End of Time (I always stop there every time I play for some reason).

the DS version has a 13th ending that ties to chrono cross (which I hope gets a PSP port) a weapon stronger than the rainbow sword for Chrono, 3 new dungeons with 3 bosses (that give 3 charaters an extra stat boost) and a grueling mini-quest area that tends to drag on

^^That sounds a lot like the extra material they added for the GBA versions of FFIV and VI...new dungeons with new weapons, but they really, REALLY dragged, and both the dungeon layouts and the new dialogue didn't really fit in that well. Seemed a lot like the guys who made the new content didn't try too hard to integrate the new stuff with the "feel" of the original games.

There was at least some effort made to integrate the side dungeons into the DS port of CT, but they are extremely repetitive and get to be quite difficult--for very little reward. I don't think they add much to the game, personally.

if your into charater maximization, the 3 crawl dungeons are the only way to make Marle and Lucca stronger
