Change.org petition: Magnum P.I./NCIS crossover

... So one large explosion could forever rid us of all the characters in one tidy go?

Can't do a NCIS/Magnum crossover, because Magnum is a TV show in the NCIS universe. Here is the proof:

1st or 2nd season Hawaii 50 had a crossover with NCIS LA when an LA agent (brown-haired female) helped out with finding a terrorist (asked by McGarret's friend Joe - who also played CAG on JAG--nevermind). This places Hawaii 50 in the NCIS universe. Then, a 3rd season episode had everyone flying in a helicopter and singing the Magnum theme song, referencing how McGarret and Magnum are both SEALs. Therefore, this crossover could never happen--even though it would be cool. Sorry.

I already knew that. But Bellisario is famous for telling fans not to worry about the details.

Magnum P.I. was a dramatization of the real Thomas Magnum's exploits. Thomas Magnum just starred in the show about himself, like, you know, Arlo Guthrie in 'Alice's Restaurant.' Both Thomas Magnum and his TV show can be real in the NCIS universe. Problem solved.

Fiction is not immutable physics. It can be changed and shaped at will. Magic, of a sort.

So what? The Practice crossed over with Boston Public in the latter's debut season (I think) and established that one of the lawyers from The Practice (Eleanor Frutt) was friends with one of the teachers from Boston Public.

The Practice later spent most of it's final episodes setting up James Spader's character Alan Shore for his spinoff, Boston Legal.

In a later episode of Boston Legal, one witness testified that she remembered the night a crime took place because she'd been watching Boston Public on TV that night.

Let's not even mention the amazing crossover The Practice did with its tonally opposite sibling Ally McBeal.

In other words -- its an easy thing to retcon. One minor reference, made ages ago isn't going to stop the producers from doing it if they thing its a story that has some juice to it.

Also, Bellisario wanted to do a Quantum Leap episode where Sam leaps in as Magnum, yet in an earlier episode, a character is seen watching Magnum P.I. on TV.

And John Munch once appeared on The X-Files even though that show is fictional in the L&O/Homicide universe where Munch exists.

Here's a crossover I'd like to see: Barney Miller and Castle. The police precinct number is the same in both shows, amirite? So have Ron Glass return as his old character Harris and reminisce about what's changed in his department since he was on the force. Reunite him with his old Firefly costar Nathan Fillion...

Speaking of crossovers, seeing as Netflix now both have Hell on Wheels and Longmire as exclusives, two shows that are set in the same area in different centuries, I wonder if it would be possible for them to have Colm Meaney or Anson Mount appear on Longmire. I could see Colm Meaney star as a Thomas Durant descendant working for the railroad suspected of a murder. I could also see Robert Taylor fitting in on Hell on Wheels.

Hell on Wheels still has half a season left to premiere on AMC next year. It's no longer in production. I haven't read anything about Netflix picking it up for a new season.

My bad, you're right. I thought it had been saved from cancellation by Netflix. Maybe I was confused with something else, possibly even Longmire. Still would like a crossover though. What I find amazing is having two series set in the same area set a century apart, airing at the same time.
