Chain of Command pt1 - Did Dr. Crusher had sex with the Ferengi?

yesterday I rewatched Chain of Command. It's a fine 2-parter, but with all the action and danger this never caught my attention until now.

Picard, Worf and Dr. Crusher go to a planet to find a Ferengi and try to talk him into taking them to some planet.

At first he doesn't want to, but then Dr. Crusher goes "oooh, I'd be very very grateful if you did that for us" caressing his ears (known sex organs)

Next scene they are already in said planet, implying ...

ew.

Based on how awkward and excited the Ferengi was, I don't think she went all the way. It seems like something might have happened to keep things moving forward when they went to arrange the transportation.

That possibility never crossed my mind. I assume that the ear massage was the extend of their interaction, but the ear massage is a sexual act to a Ferengi.

Ferengi ears are not a sex organ. They are just sensative and large hearing organs. A human can gain pleasure from having their ears touched like that. For a Ferengi it is more so due to the size (more surface area to touch) and sensativity.

Ferengi ears are an erogenous zone, not a sex organ. But if that Ferengi is anything like Quark, even just a light tickle is enough to influence him. Oo-max is oo-max. ;)

Nah. This is Next Generation, remember. Humans in that era had evolved beyond sex.

This thread is making me see things in a different light, namely when I scratch my dogs ear and his leg goes. I hope the dog isn't reading to much into it now. :alienblush:

Yes, yes, yes! She did "had sex" [sic] with the Ferengi. Multiple times. And she liked it; made her toes curl.

This reminds me that the barking irish setter was perfectly cast as a shrill Dr. Crusher when Q turned her into one. I was amazed at how accurate its portrayal was to the character. It was like they were twins.

She definitely took one for the team.

...Why did they need that ride anyway? Getting to the Secret Cardassian Military Installation Planet was supposedly forbidden through and through. So taking a Starfleet heavy shuttle should be no different from taking a Ferengi light bazaar - except that if they bought the services of Daimon Solok, he would be tempted to cash in twice, selling the team to the Cardassians at delivery.

(And since that was a Secret Cardassian Military Science Installation Planet, there would obviously be females in charge, and so Solok could expect payment in nature at both ends!)

^ so if they were captured, Stafleet could deny there were under orders. Exactly what happensed in Part 2:

JELLICO: Captain Picard was not acting under my orders.
LEMEC: And if we wish to execute him?
RIKER: Under the terms of the Selonis Convention, Captain Picard must
LEMEC: The Selonis Convention applies to prisoners of war, which means you would have to acknowledge that he was captured during a mission authorised by the Federation. Are you willing to make such an admission?
JELLICO: No.
LEMEC: Then he will be treated as a terrorist.
JELLICO: It's not my concern.

These were known Starfleet officers, wielding Starfleet phasers and tricorders in order to conduct their dastardly mission. Flying in aboard a Starfleet shuttle should have made no difference whatsoever!

Apparently, Starfleet can claim with a straight face that anybody and everybody has free access to Starfleet-issue weapons and sensors, and it's not Starfleet's responsibility at all if these are then used for evil. We know Starfleet also donates shuttlecraft left and right, or allows those to be stolen. So, again, why the need for third-party transportation?

(Kirk in ST:ID at least used a civilian vessel, and provided his team with civilian weaponry. His opponents may have been aware of his identity, and/or would possibly readily recognize Spock at least - but then again, they might not. None of our heroes were famous at that point yet, and Klingon access to Starfleet records was not demonstrated in that movie. Heck, Kirk and Spock went unrecognized in "Errand of Mercy", too! No such luck for Picard here.)

and I always got the feeling that the mental aspect of having a *gasp* clothed female be the one to do it made it more enjoyable for them.
Odd people those ferengi. They subjugate their women into always being naked yet seem to be really into clothed non-ferengi females

something like a ferengi ship could probably make it past a border checkpoint (assuming it's scanned from a distance but not actually boarded) legally as a merchant vessel where a starfleet shuttle would be flagged as an enemy military vessel even at a distance due to the federation warp signature or some other technobabble

I guess so. The relationship between the Ferengi and the Cardassians seems very close anyway... Perhaps they allowed Quark to do business on DS9 because Ferenginar has provided them with a very attractive deal on high quality replicator tech?

Using intermediaries still seems an unnecessary risk when the Federation probably could provide Picard with a fake Ferengi ship easily enough. Say, a small yacht like that of the Grand Nagus, not much different from shuttlecraft. Was this mission really so time-critical that special equipment did not reach Picard in time?

Or was that just part of the overall scheme to get Picard into trouble? Somebody inside Starfleet would have had to help out the Cardassians in devising this trap that uniquely lured in Captain Picard...

It's pretty creative to suggest that Crusher's interaction with the Ferengi went anything beyond Umax. Umax may be sexual to Ferengi but for humans it's like a neck massage.

The Cardassians let Quark operate on Tarok Nor for the same reason Ferengi ships could travel in the GQ with impunity even after they started blowing up Federation colonies. They provide an economic advantage, absolutely no military threat, and offer no resistance to force.

Not only did they have sex but I believe they dated for a few months. If you look closely you can see a framed picture of this ferengi character in Dr. Crusher's quarters. It's also rumored that he was meant to be Wesley's biological father.

I forget the name of the episode but Troi also became interested romantically in the same Ferengi and it ended with Troi/Crusher agreeing not to let this hunk of man come between them.

The character was also conceived to replace Worf as head of security.

It's good to know I'm not alone.

That was the episode "Have I Got a Deal for You".

Wasn't that the episode the Ferengi tried to get into the Orion slave trade by posing as Orions. Just all they did was paint themselves green.
