It's close to Halloween, and a man is found murdered in a graveyard - with a stick through his heart, and sporting fangs. Castle and Beckett track the murderer to a vampire cult, all the while Castle is trying on costumes for his Halloween party - costume mandatory!

Castle as Poe? The coroner looks hot ...

I'm looking forward to seeing Castle as Captain Tightpants, if the sneak peeks are any indication.

Can't wait! Suppose to be a Buffy reference too I think with the stake and vampires, somewhere in there, so listen for it.

Well that was all rather sudden, and quick sadly :(

But way cool, he was a "space cowboy" hehe

And a Buffy reference!

The best part:
Alexus: Didn't you wear that about five years ago?
Castle: Yeah
Alexus: isn't it time you moved on?

Great ep start to finish.

If there was a Buffy reference, I missed it.

But so much good stuff all through. Daughter's costume was wonderful, she looked so good. And mom as Cruella was great.

"I'm giving you the bird."

Loved it :bolian:. The teaser was perfect - the in-jokes about Firefly were great. This cast and crew do a fantastic job of balancing humor and drama, and the show is doing a good job of approaching the cleverness of shows like Buffy without being too clever. Good "B" plot with Alexis, too; they do a great job keeping Castle human through that relationship. (Side note: one of the co-executive producers of the show is José Molina, who also worked on Firefly; René Echevarria is a TNG/DS9/sci-fi alumnus, as well)

Hence the constant firefly references. For non firefly fans. Was the in jokes too much?

The first scene was absolutely great! I loved him in his "space cowboy" costume. I thought it was really awesome that they drew a reference from his old TV series "firefly". I told Mom that that was the same exact outfit he wore in the movie "Serenity" as well as the TV show "firefly". She was like: oh really?? I got a kick outta that! And the "Buffy" reference was great as well. Loved this episode..very funny.

There's so much discussion of the Firefly in-jokes that nobody's talking about the story. I thought it was a very good episode with a rather moving resolution to the mystery, though I do have a hard time believing anyone could retain such vivid memories from the age of two.

I knew that egg was going to get broken, but I'm relieved it didn't happen in an obvious way, like Castle accidentally breaking it and trying to pass off a different egg as Fagin, or someone at the precinct absently sitting on it. Kinda sweet that Beckett actually took care of the egg without being asked. And it really shows how smart and responsible Alexis is to see her contrasted with a more typical teenager making bad and petty choices. Plus she looked cool as an elf.

An elf? I thought she was Poison Ivy (red hair, green outfit with ivy all over it, general nerdiness of the authors and many comic references in the show ;)).

As for the vivid memories, maybe they weren't conscious - after all, he had drawn them 4 years earlier, before he could put anything together with the details that Damon had. I could buy that - he may have been drawing the murder, but only from images burned below the surface of his mind.

The Firefly stuff was icing, to be sure, but the story definitely stood on its own two feet.

In the first scene in the cemetery, Castle says: "Looks like Buffy payed a visit to the big apple" or something

In addition to the Buffy & Firefly nods, I also liked the reference to the Underworld series. :bolian:

Amen! How cool was that? An Underworld gag on an ABC cop show!

(And the daughter was definitely an elf. Check out the pointed ears . . . .)
