Bucky O'Hare and The Toad Wars, remember this awesome toon?

I was 10 years old when it came out in 1991 and it became one of my favorite TV shows of all time but too bad it didn't lasted too long for it's such a great cult TV show.

A nice mix of furry animation and Sci-fi combined! i like the animation and the characters with amusing action sequences, and WHOA man Jenny is one hot as hell alien cat chick i would really go for, i had a thing for her since i was 10.

I used to watch it on CBBC1 when I was 7.
I got the DVD in 2004 and it was fun to see it again after so many years.

I'd post some more thoughts on it but I should be going to bed. For tomorrow...

I hated that show. It basically endorsed race war. As far as I could tell, the "heroes" weren't fighting the enemy Toads because the Toads were oppressing anyone or doing anything particularly horrible; they weren't trying to make the galaxy safe for democracy or anything. From the way the characters talked about it, they were basically at war with the Toads because they were Toads. And their battle cry "Let's croak us some Toads" left no doubt that their intent was to kill Toads merely for the crime of being amphibians. They weren't fighting for justice or freedom, they were waging a war of racial genocide. It was a hideous subtext for a kids' show.

My friend and I went to a Sci Fi club night about a fortnight ago. I wore my TOS uniform (natch) and she went as Bucky O'Hare. It was amazing. She got hit on more times than I can count. Who knew men had such bizarre fantasies? Bucky O'Hare? Really??

No, don't remember it.:vulcan:

:wtf: Yaaaaa... that's nut's!

I remember watching it on the BBC when I was little, I've got all the toys from the show somewhere too. Can't remember anything about it other than the names of a few characters now, I'm going to have to go watch it again I think.

The toads were a society brainwashed by their own technology, a machine called KOMPLEX. One Toad was a cyborg called Toadborg (how unclever). *Scary that I remember something I was never really into*

From wikipedia
The storyline follows a parallel universe (the aniverse), where a war is ongoing between the slightly inept United Animals Federation (run by mammals) and the sinister Toad Empire. The Toad Empire is led by a vast computer system known as KOMPLEX, which has brainwashed the toad population.

The character/universe was created by Larry Hama, best known for his invovlement with 80's GI JOE.

Here's an episode of the show on Youtube for nostalgic viewing pleasure:

Great show, still fresh after all these years thanks to the magic of Youtube. And did anyone found the pink haired cat chick Jenny hot as hell? i sure did when i was 10 and still do, she's got an impressive body and fine tits.

OK, not sure that held up as well as I remembered, but it's decent. I might keep watching until Toadborg shows up, I remember that guy giving me the creeps.

Christopher, watch the first episode and you'll see the Toads are clearly shown as evil. Superficial and cliche, but Bucky O'Hare is certainly justified.

I remember the show. While I don't recall watching it regularly, after reading this thread, parts of the theme song are stuck in my head.

Oh yes. One of my favorite shows when I was a kid.
Christopher, watch the episode linked above. One of the toad mission goals is to enslave earth, so it's not some kind of genocide. I'm betting you don't remember the show very well. ;)

Oh, speaking of, I remember Jenny being freaking hot.

...what?

It's hardly amazing stuff, but what's actually good about the show is that even though there were only 13 episodes made, it actually has a decent beginning, middle and end, with Bucky's home planet of Warren being ensalved in the first episode, and is freed in the finale, with the main villian Komplex vanquished (which as a kid I thought was frakking awesome. Episode after episode of the likes of Megatron, Mumm-Ra, Miles Mayhem etc escaping to commit evil another day, but to here have the bad guy blown to smithereens was so cool)

It would also be about 50 times better without the Willy DuWitt character, and his awful Earth-based shite shennagins.

I too used to have all the figures when I was younger as well. I got rid of them all years ago but I still have the Bucky figure... actually at the back of my drawer in my desk where I'm sat right now. Forgot about that, awesome!

I don't know why but watching the DVD back at times it was like watching Firefly-for-little-kids or something. Maybe because the ship looks a teeny bit like Serenity, and they're on the losing side of the war. I guess Bucky is Mal, Jenny is Zoe, and Deadeye Duck is Jayne
