British Genre Series "MISFITS" comes to... Hulu

The British series about five teens on probation who gain superpowers will make it's US debut online, instead of on a cable network.
Misfits follows five unruly teenagers, Kelly (Lauren Socha), Nathan (Robert Sheehan), Curtis (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett), Alisha (Antonia Thomas), and Simon (Iwan Rheon) who are forced to do community service as payback for their crimes. But when a freak electrical storm hits their town, strange things begin to happen to them that are way out of their control. In fact, they have no idea that they've actually turned into superheroes, each with a power, a power they didn't choose or want – a power which reveals each of their deepest, darkest insecurities.
Misfits on Hulu

The show arrives on June 20. An interesting development. While Misfits didn't (appear) to receive the amount of attention that say, Primeval got, I was assuming it would wind up finding a cable home here. Running on Hulu will limit it's potential reach. :wtf:

I was just about to post this. I think most channels, other than Premium cable, might have a problem airing it in the US, with all the swearing and occasional sex scenes and nudity. So it's good it's at least getting shown over there, though I hate to think what the US audience will make of Kelly's accent.

Surprised it's not on BBC America because they air the InBetweeners and I always thought that was raunchier than Misfits is.

this sounds liike a cool show. love brittish sci fi. will they air this on bbcamerica?

Sweet. I've been wanting to see this, but figured I'd have to wait for the DVDs or streaming Netflix. Do you if they'll edit it for Hulu?
And for those who are asking they do have CC for shows on Hulu. They have subtitiled Korean shows, and they appear to have all of the same options for stuff in English.

H U L U

I know it's H U L U. I just thought that it would be all so be on bbca. smart ass.

all so I can't wait for it to start looks fantastic alpha's have there work cut out for them. all so does any one remmber the show misfits of science.

If it was going to be airing on a U.S. television or cable outlet, the announcement that it was going to premier in the U.S. on Hulu would be a non issue.

Very interesting how HULU and Netflix are getting shows in the USA instead of networks.
Is 'misfits' more like HEROES tv series or X-MEN movie?

It isn't like either really. It's fun, rude and crude and very British. The creator said he wanted to do a British superhero story with none of the American angle to it, just very much set in how British society is.

Netflix has always picked up shows that networks don't bother with. The costs of just stocking some DVDs or streaming a show is very minor compared with allocating a timeslot.

There's no reason that Netflix shouldn't carry everything. In fact, they should start an "esoterica" campaign. What's Mongolian TV like? But I digress...

What's the advantage, if any, to Hulu over Netflix? I tried Hulu once but didn't care for it. Granted, it was a while ago and maybe it's changed a lot.

Well, as a long time user of Hulu one of the major appeals is that it has a lot more current stuff, and it's free(ish, they do have an optional paid membership that gives you alot more content.)
And for those who are wondering Hulu has actually been getting alot of foreign stuff for a while. They've got British stuff, like Black Books, Spaced and Green Wing (I love this show), a bunch Korean shows, including what quickly became one of my favorite shows IRIS, and they get alot of anime stuff directly from Japan less than a week after it airs there.

I have a love/hate relationship with this show

Love the premise and characters but hate the crudeness. Sometimes it was very off-putting.

I thought the reveal at the end of season 1 episode 2 was sad but the revelation was hilarious.

I like the crudeness, that is a pretty realistic representation of how those characters would speak IRL.
