"The Court Supreme" - Alan Shore gets the dream of a lifetime for an attorney when he is asked to present an appeal to the Supreme Court in the case of a mentally challenged man who has been sentenced to death for the rape of a young girl. Meanwhile, Katie Lloyd learns some startling news from Lorraine Weller about Jerry Espenson's new girlfriend, on "Boston Legal," TUESDAY, APRIL 22 (10:02-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Guest starring are Rachelle Lefevre as Dana Strickland, Kate Beahan as Attorney Audrey Patterson, Bob Gunton as Attorney William Connolly, John Posey as Chief Justice Roberts, Vito D'Ambrosio as Justice Samuel Alito, Nestor Serrano as D.A.G. Ronald Lazarus, Matthew Hatchette as Lenny Serra and Jack Shearer as Justice Antonin Scalia.
Jack Shearer is always funny, so this should be a good one.

And don't forget, BL moves to Wednesdays starting next week!

Death penalty for a rape; does that even happen in the USA?

I'm no expert, but it sounds believable to me.

And on top of that, these aren't made up justices, they're actually having actors portray Scalia, Roberts, and the rest. Cool beans. I wonder if we'll get any fun cheap shots. ;)

I think there's actually a case being appealed to the Supreme Court about that very issue right now.

I haven't seen Boston Legal in awhile, but this seems interesting, so I'll see if I can remember to watch it.

Only if the victim is a child, and only in four states (capital punishment for rape generally is expressly forbidden by the Supreme Court). As Alidar Jarok, noted, a challenge to one of these statutes is currently pending before the high court.

This is my source, btw: link

I thought Shore had a point before he went on his rant. I know it's David E. Kelly, but that takes the believability away a bit. Good speach, just not for the Supreme Court. The Justices looked like the real ones, though.

10 minutes left, I can't imagine him winning, but who knows? Has Denny Crane lost a case yet? I also have no idea how the real case will turn out, but I think the right issues were mentioned (even if he went off topic soon after).

EDIT: I guess it makes sense that it wasn't decided.

It takes many many months to decide.

The episode was ehh... The main story was even silly for Boston Legal, and the secondary story was terrible.

However I loved how they fit the... "Where are we going next, blah blah, Maybe we will move to Wednesday? When does that start? Next week."

I loved it!

Average. I was actual hoping for a toned down and realistic portrayal since this case after all is real. I felt Alan's speech could've been more reserved and direct. Some of his usual wandering rhetoric while worked in other episodes needed to be cut down to minimum in this case.

The B story with Jerry was a complete nonfactor.

I doubt the real Supreme Court would let somebody go on that kind of rant, and I think Alan went on a few too many tangents.

All around, though, a highly entertaining episode... :techman:

Jack Shearer as Justice Antonin Scalia.

Are you sure you're not thinking of Harry Shearer of Simpsons and Spinal Tap fame? Jack Shearer is a multiple Trek guest. But I suppose it's possible he could be funny too. :D
You're right, I was thinking of Harry Shearer. But seeing Jack Shearer (who I vaguely remembered as the admiral from the beginning of First Contact) was a kick, too.

As for this episode, I had to rate it fair. Alan's soapbox speech just didn't work for me this week, and the subplot with Jerry wasn't much better. Hopefully the last three episodes will be better.

Has Denny Crane lost a case yet?

As he said in the episode he's never lost a case. If they lose he's blaming it on Alan and that it applies to his track record and not Denny's according to the dialogue when they got back to Boston.

I was suprised that this was actually an advertised episode. I saw several promos for it on ABC during the course of the day (ABC was on in the background while we made phone calls about voting in PA).

I much preferred the Texas Supreme Court Alan speech/back-and-forth, but this one was decent enough.

I loved that Texas one. That was a great episode and shows that Boston Legal can do genuinely serious episodes.

THERE WERE ADS?!?! :wtf:

The first ad for Boston Legal I have seen in years was at 10:20 in the middle of Boston Legal. :)

I'm guessing it will either be, of course, 5-4 against, or 4-4-1 with someone actually recusing themselves or sustaining, so Alan will still lose.

Perhaps some odd event might occur down in Louisiana that could still get the guy a stay. Like the Governor coming to his senses.

But I really can't see Alan winning this one. At least not from the Supreme Court.

I loved Alan going off on the Supreme Court.

Realistic? No.

But it was fun to watch.

And I was in a stand-up-and-cheer mood.

I doubt we'll ever know the outcome. Unless it's a 5-4 to uphold and we see Alan dealing with the emotional aftermath of the execution.

This episode had so many moments that proved why BL is the best TV show on at the moment:techman:

Am not surprised the poll is split for the episode because am sure people will feel Kelly was being Left Wing but that rant from Alan while how unrealistic was truly one of the best highlights of this entire TV season and for the record quite true.

In terms of the shows fate and am sure this is why Kelly wrote it in...

"Were Not Done Yet Alan"
