Bonanzas Pernell Roberts has passed

That's a shame. :(

I'm going to watch SanFrancisco International tonight in honor of him.

RIP Purnell.

Sad news, but also weird, because not 1/2 hour before reading this news I was looking at a pop culture website and saw his name mentioned and I wondered whatever became of him. Like many others I knew him more as Trapper John than from Bonanza, but it's still sad. As noted, the whole original cast of Bonanza is now gone. :(

Aww. I always liked Adam the best. I can't even watch the episodes that don't have him in it.

I also liked him in Trapper John. Very sad to hear that he passed. :(

Ironic thread title. Didn't he hate being on Bonanza?

Yep, the repetitive and simplistic story-telling drove him mad, and he left about half way the run I think. Which is a shame because it was actually one of the best-written Western shows on at the time, it was just that they could never come close to the best of what was in the cinema.

Coincidentally, I've been watching some S1 Bonanza over Christmas, and Roberts is superb in it, as are all the four main cast members. RIP.

Yes he did. He was only in 6 of the 14 seasons. Bonanza did have some silly scripts at times. They would rotate between an action script, dramatic script and comedy script. I would assume the sillier episodes are what did him in. Still though Roberts was best know for Bonanza thats why I used it in the thread title. I watched him in Trapper John first but came to really like him when I started watching Bonanza.

I remember him more from the Trapper John MD show.
R.I.P. Mr Roberts
I remember him as several third world/communist dictators on Mission Impossible. Discovered he was on Bonanza much later. I enjoyed him as Trapper John, too.
