Bettie Page 1923-2008

Bettie Page, one of the most famous US pin-up models of the 1950s, has died in Los Angeles, aged 85.

Her provocative poses - often in bikinis - made her a cult figure and she was one of the first models to appear in Playboy magazine.

She "captured the imagination of a generation with her free spirit and unabashed sensuality", her agent said.

Poor Bettie. An American Icon who spent many years in poverty. Thanks to renewed fame in the 80s (inspired to a large degree by Dave Stevens), she finally got some of the money she deserved. It's interesting to note that she was in her mid-thirties when she became a Playboy Centerfold; not likely to happen today....

RIP, Bettie. :(

A true icon for a generation. She has a great body of work that while dated is truly ageless.

Thanks Bettie from me and every 13-yr-old boy who knew you when they needed too. May you once again find peace.

Oh, such sad news. :(

She was a true icon and a pioneer in so many respects for the pin-up world.

May she rest in peace.

Goodbye, my Dear.

Bettie Page really was an icon. So many pinups today owe their style to her.

A recent example I saw was in the film 'St Trinian's", the head girl had a Bettie Page/ Louise Brooks vibe about her. It's a style that's never gone out of date.

I really hope she found some peace and comfort in her later years.

85 is a mildly disappointing age for a woman to die at (one of my aunts died at the age of 99), but a damn site better than most of the male celebrities who died like flies this year.
