Best order to read TNG books

Hi all, I just joined the forum and I'm hoping you can help me with my question. I did a search here but couldn't find an answer in the book FAQ. I want to know the order to read all the TNG books in. Not just the post Nemesis books. I know the pocket book ones are numbered so it's a no brainer there but where do the following go within those books:

(Star Trek: The Next Generation) Reunion
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) Imzadi
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) Dark Mirror
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) The Devil's Heart
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) Q-Squared
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) Crossover
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) Kahless
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) Ship of the Line
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) Triangle: Imzadi II
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) The Q Continuum
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) I, Q
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) The Valiant
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) The Genesis Wave Book One
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) The Genesis Wave Book Two
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) The Genesis Wave
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) The Genesis Wave Book Three
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) Double Helix
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) Genesis Force
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) Imzadi Forever
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) Pantheon
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) The Q Continuum
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) Death in Winter
(Star Trek: The Next Generation) The Sky's the Limit

I have already some recently, like the Genesis Wave books and a long time ago, maybe 12 years or so I'd read a number of the others but I want to read the entire TNG offerings from start to finish. I got up to book 12 (Gulliver's Fugitives) and realized I didn't know where the above fitted into the numbered series. So any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

There is no specific order in which you have to read these books. But if you don't know where to start, I would suggest to read them either chronologically or in Order of publication. Or just take a look at the Back-cover texts and grab one that sounds interesting, it's all up to you.

These books would actually go like this

The Genesis Wave Book 1
The Genesis Wave Book 2
The Genesis Wave Book 3
Genesis Force (this is sorta like Genesis Wave Book 4 but not)

The one you have listed as simply "The Genesis Wave" is a hard cover omnibus that contains books 1 and 2 together.

That said, reading order is usually best served by going in publication order. Though most of these old TNG books aren't related much at all so it doesn't matter what order you read them in.

Thanks for those links. I just wasn't sure if any of them were mentioned in any of numbered books at all. Guess I'll tackle them in order of publication.

Ok thanks. At what point should I start paying attention to the order I read them in? I skipped ahead recently and read "Death in Winter", "Resistance" and "Before Dishonor", these books are obviously connected and use things from the book previous to continue the storyline. I guess if I just read things in the order of publication date though I'll be good.

Yeah, there didn't start being any real integrated continuity in TNG until after Nemesis came out, with the A Time To... series. (The books you mentioned in ^ this post are all after that, and do interrelate; not so the pre-Nemesis novels.) If you're interested in following some kind of order, either of those links is fine, but frankly it doesn't matter at all. You obviously want to read Imzadi before Imzadi II, and you want to read Reunion before The Valiant, but aside from that the books are not really related at all.

Thanks for the info on Reunion and The Valiant being connected, didn't realize that. Just saw the cover for The Valiant... Picard looks so wrong with hair! LOL!

That's the way that most of us, who were up-to-date, read them. My only tip for publication order: if the book was originally a hardcover, but you now have a copy in mass market paperback, the original publication date will be approx. one year earlier.

Use the lit pages of Memory Beta for actual hardcover publishing dates.

Thanks for the tip :)

When it comes to the older books, like others have said, it doesn't matter. Some of them, in fact, you might want to skip altogether. "Boogeymen," for instance.

Keep in mind Imzadi Forever is Imzadi & Imzadi II reprinted together, Pantheon is Reunion and the Valiant, and you have the Q Continuum Listed twice. :)

and teeny tiny print, as I recall.
Get the eBook and make the text larger.

wait, weren't you the one having all the problems with your S&S ebooks?

I prefer to buy used books.

Just one eBook I bought from S&S is a problem. I've sorted it myself, but I still want S&S to sort it on their end since most people would not be able to sort it.

But to get back on topic, my original statement still stands.. read TNG books in timeline order.
