Best Genre TV shows of the Decade 2000-2009

Originally I was going to make this only a Sci-Fi list of the best shows that came out in the just concluded decade, but I felt it was unfair to leave out shows that weren't Sci-Fi but weren't enough of to warrant a listing of their own.

Anyway, here's my list:

1. Lost
2. Firefly
3. Supernatural
4. Doctor Who
5. Battlestar Galactica
6. True Blood
7. Journeyman
8. Star Trek: Enterprise
9. The 4400
10. Dark Angel/Fringe TIE

Honorable Mentions: Stargate: Universe, Surface, V, Torchwood, Being Human, Primeval, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Defying Gravity, Heroes (first season only).

I would say Doctor Who, with Galactica as a close second. Actually, within the limits of the genre, I would say that these two shows are so different they almost deserve to be in different categories... which they would storm without much opposition.

Firefly had the potential to become a contender, but with its short run it's hardly comparable to much more lengthy shows in my opinion.

Battlestar Galactica
Angel
Firefly
Lost
Star Trek Enterprise
Stargate Atlantis
Doctor Who
Torchwood
Life On Mars (British version)

I haven't seen Stargate Universe, Primevel, V or Supernatural yet. Nor "Fringe". Or "Carnivale". Dammit.

Hon Mention for Smallville and DC's animated efforts.

Battlestar Galactica
LOST
Carnivale (if it had gone on longer it might've been the best show of all time)
Fringe
Doctor Who
Invasion

Nothing else is coming to mind at the moment. Stargate Universe is still too new to judge.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Dr. Who
Battlestar Galactica
True Blood
Stargate Universe (yeah, a handful of episodes...)
Star Trek: Enterprise
Stargate (leftover from the 90's...whaddya want?)
Legend of the Seeker

And all I can think of is to round it off with animation:

Futurama
Star Wars The Clone Wars

Honorable mentions: X-Men Evolution, Fringe, Justice League/Unlimited

Sci-fi and fantasy shows not mentioned yet (not in my list, just FYI):
Dollhouse
Odyssey 5
Flash Gordon (is that still on? ;))
Threshold
The Vampire Diaries
Moonlight
Blade The Series
Sanctuary
Jericho
The Dresden Files
Eureka
Tru Calling
The Ghost Whisperer
Charmed (Debuted in the 90's)
New Amsterdam

Battlestar Galactica (first two seasons only)
Supernatural
Journeyman
True Blood
Carnivale and not one person has named Farscape????

Farscape. It ran until 2003.

Yes, but it started in the 90s, so that, IMO, disqualifies it. Now, if this had been about the 90s, HELL YEAH! Buffy and X Files would make that list, too, both shows that straddled the decades.

Same with Babylon 5, for that matter. SG-1 as well.

9. The 4400

Excellent list except for Lost. I'd sub in Sarah Connor, or Heroes (season 1), or maybe Flash Forward in it's place. But overall, EXCELLENT choices, IMO.

(unsure exactly what you mean by genre so will keep it to a sci fi ish route) Top 10...

1. Doctor Who
2. Stargate SG-1
3. Angel
4. Lost
5. Stargate Atlantis
6. Life on Mars (UK version)
7. Battlestar Galactica
8. Firefly
9. Star Trek Enterprise
10. Torchwood

Nod to Invasion and first 2 seasons of Heroes.

That list could change everytime you asked me but am pretty sure of my top 4.

What I meant were shows that are science fiction, fantasy or horror. And though some people have listed shows like Farscape, I meant for shows that made their debut from 2000 and on (and yeah some those shows should be on a top 90s list).

Thanks! :techman:

I'm just posting my top five favorites here:

1) Battlestar Galactica
2) Lost
3) Firefly
4) Star Trek: Enterprise
5) Dark Angel

Here's my rather controversial list:

1) Battlestar Galactica
2) Doctor Who
3) Being Erica
4) Sarah Jane Adventures
5) Eureka
6) The 4400
7) Chuck
8) Firefly
9) Dollhouse
10) Torchwood

1. Farscape. 2. LOST. 3. Doctor Who. 4. Angel. 5. Buffy. 6. Stargate SG1. 7. BSG. 8. Heroes 9. Enterprise. 10. uh...

Really, no Farscape? Okay then...

1. Lost
2. Heroes, S1
3. Firefly
4. Futurama
5. BSG
6. Carnivale
7. Chuck
8. Invasion
9. ENT, S4
10. Jericho

Hard even finding 10 worthy nominees, sheesh. Had to cheat by being selective about seasons in some cases. ;)

Here's hoping 2010-2019 fares better for sci fi on TV. :wtf:

Serious category:

1. Bsg
2. Doctor Who
3. Farscape
4. Firefly
5. Torchwood (season 3 would be number 1, season 1 would be number 99, so average...)
6. Supernatural
7. Enterprise (seasons 3-4 ONLY, the rest doesn't exists.)
8. 4400
9. Heroes (season 1 ONLY, the rest is an abomination)
10. Lost (season 2-3 was boring, s1 and 5 excellent, 4 amazing)

Honorable mention to Odyssey 5, Threshold and Journeyman, three series with AMAZING premises, yet cancelled before their time. (Well, so was Firefly but that was TOO AMAZING to be left out of that list.)

Dollhouse s1 was meh, but s2 is awesome since it's been cancelled :) SGU has a chance of making my top list, we'll see.

By the way, my favourite genre of all time has only one difference to this list. The number 1 spot. Babylon 5.

Funny category:
1. Futurama
2. Chuck

nothing else really.

1. Battlestar Galactica
2. Lost
3. Firefly
4. Stargate Atlantis
5. The 4400

That's the best I can come up with. Stargate SG-1, Futurama and a whole bunch of other shows are disqualified for having started in the 90's.

Heroes is disqualified for breach of rule 47a which covers the unnecessary nerfing of key characters.

Dollhouse is unfortunately disqualified for breach of rule 42c which covers overly ridiculous fight sequences.

I can only think of 10 that I have really consistently enjoyed. (But I might have missed something...) I also have to cheat by season filtering, otherwise 'Lost' and 'Heroes' would not qualify:

1. Farscape
2. Firefly (Curse you FOX!)
3. Journeyman (CURSE YOU NBC!!!!)
4. (nu)BSG
5. Lost (S1 and S5 only)
6. Fringe
7. Dr. Who
8. Heroes (S1 only)
9. Stargate Universe (so far!)
10. True Blood (I have only seen S1)

In no particular order:

BSG
Firefly
Doctor Who
Torchwood
Dollhouse
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Lost
Supernatural
True Blood
Flash Forward

I would have substituted Farscape, Angel and Buffy for Flash Forward, TSSC and Dollhouse, but those came out in the 1990's. I haven't seen The 4400 yet, but it seems to have popped up on quite a few lists so perhaps I should check it out...
