Be Forever Yamato REBEL 3199

The Cosmos DNA / Star Blazers Facebook page just uploaded a series of pictures of the new Rebel 3199 mecha taken at the Bandai display at the Japanese Hobby/Model Convention. It's nothing we haven't seen before, just updated paint schemes on Yamato and the Battle carriers.

I'm a little confused. What does the 3199 mean?
I'm a little confused because I thought this was set in the year 3199. The original Space Battleship Yamato starts in 2199 and then there was a spin-off adaption set in 3199 (1,000 years later) called Great Yamato Zero.

With the 3199 I assumed this was adapting the Great Yamato Zero story, but some of the descriptions of what is are kind of vague and the first part of the title "Be Forever Yamato" is also the title of a 1980 Yamato movie that was set in the early 23rd century and had nothing to do with the 3199 setting of the spin-off oav (later turned into a manga which is opposite what usually happens)

The characters in the 3199 Yamato Zero had some similar designs to characters from the original show, but they were 'new' characters and the Yamato itself was changed a bit and added elements from the Arcadia (Space Captain Harlock's ship)

Rebel 3199 is the third full season following the Yamato 2199 timeline. It appears to be based on the plotlines of the 1980 film "Be Forever, Yamato" and some elements of the original third season (The Bolar Wars).

The series start in the year 2207. However there have been hints that the new enemy (seen in Yamato 2205 as well as originally in Be Forever, Yamato) may have some temporal connections, thus maybe something will be from or go to the year 3199. Or it may be a fake future. That is something we do not know yet, and I suspect we will not know for sure until one of the later chapters.

Unfortunately no one ever subtitled it. I've watched a couple of episodes on YouTube and have rarely been more confused. And every summary of it I've found online seems like it was created by a random word generator.

Has anyone seen it, understood it and can explain to me what exactly it's about, please?

From what I understand the story was never actually 'finished' in animated form as it was cancelled early. The entire project was actually just Leiji Matsumoto getting 'around' the copyright on the original show to some extent. That's why you had characters who may have resembled the designs of characters from the original show (or some from Space Pirate Captain Harlock) as well as the Yamato itself being 'changed'.

Kinda like how people would talk about the Star Trek copyrights and changing things like a certain % just to be 'different enough'.

Anyway, the 3199 spin-off originated as kind of a Pachinko machine money-grab. The machines had designs of the characters and some with the video screen may have had a short intro video... but the storyline and stuff didn't come until later (and ended up being cancelled)

I just thought it was a very strange coincidence that this show would have use the '3199' in it when Yamato Zero 3199 had it. Might just be meaningless or just a 'wink/wink' Easter egg.

Reading the excellent site ourstarblazers.com it seems that the series was finished albeit with many difficulties. In fact, you can find the complete series on YouTube. Which looks like a nightmare on LSD.

Nice.

Ginga likely has the best shields in the fleet, but I am slightly worried we might lose her and her crew.
The Earth Federation is using Gamilas tank designs.
The Bolar are violating Earth territory.
The new unmanned fleet seems to be having issues (I hope they at least get off at good shot before they malfunction, as one of my complaints about Be Forever is that they didn't do anything.)
Analyzer's original head is at least partly functional (maybe as a receiver).
The newer crew members seems to have been assigned to Asuka and Hyuga, while the senor staff of Yamato and those ships were reassigned (Shima's in the Air Force for example).
There seems to be a problem Earth side given the looks some of the officers are giving. But this is going to be a 26 episode series, so they got time to make new plot points.

The character and mecha pages have also been updated. Including Bolar ships with class names and such.

I know the old fan saying: "It ain't Yamato until Yuki dies and the 3rd Bridge explodes..."

But come on - give the girl a break already. ;)

(And some may see this as sacrilege, but I wish Funimation/Crunchyroll would announce English dubbing (or at least Subbing) of both SBY: 2205 and Rebel: 3199. I thought they did a good job with SBY: 2199 and 2202 myself. <--- But yeah, the Japanese probably want much more in fees for anything SBY and it may be that there wasn't enough response in the end to make it worth it to them.:wah:)

I can't even find an English sub version, on certain markets. :shifty:

Saw a random Facebook post that Yamato Rebel 3199 is being released on blu-ray in Japan in October. Any official announcement or rumor?
