Longtimers will remember that right up to the last minute, almost, the new Doctor Who series was not going to have the Daleks, because talks broke down between the Terry Nation estate and the BBC during the summer of 2004. (As I understand it an alternate script for Rob Shearman's 'Dalek' had been written with a different monster and it's anyone's guess who night have been the big bad at the end of the season - probably the Cybermen).
I came across this Doctor Who News Page item archived from July 2004 and while much of the info was stuff I knew - like the fact the Nation estate was pissed the BBC allowed Daleks to appear in the Looney Tunes: Back in Action movie without permission - what I didn't know is another factor is that BBC Three tried to commission an animated series about gay Daleks.

Has anyone heard anything else about what this was all about?
