Where did he get that car? Why don’t I get a car like that, with machine guns and armor and jet flames coming out of its ass?! Why does a guy in a flying rat costume get to have such good stuff?! This town needs an enema!! EEEHEEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEEEEE!

The 1989 motion picture directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson and Kim Basinger, telling the story of the rise of the Joker in a Gotham City being patrolled by the masked vigilante known as Batman. Batman’s arsenal of weapons includes the Batmobile, a sleek, jet powered armored vehicle. It was designed for the movie by Anton Furst and built on a Chevrolet Impala chassis.

I know this is way overdue, but Gary Mitchell gave me a subtle reminder about the COTW so I'll try to get it back on track if you were following the threads. If you weren't...well obviously it wasn't a huge concern then.

Still my favorite Batmobile of all time. It may not be totally practical, but in the context of Burton's Bat-World...freakin' awesome.

I went with 'awesome', because overall, it was. I remember being a little annoyed at the time that they didn't use the current designs from the comics (for this and for the Batplane) - but my inner Comic Book Guy has calmed down a little in the last 27 years. ;)

I don't think Tim Burton actually read any of the comics (according to Kevin Smith, he once said he never would read a comic). He was probably just given a general idea of Batman and the Joker and ran with it in his own way. I think both vehicles turned out just fine.

I was a huge Batman nut back in '89 and I loved this car. The guy at the model shop told me that I was the first in the city to get the Batmobile model kit when it was released, and I even got the small metal Hot Wheels version which I keep to this day.

Then in the fall of '89, I got my parents to take me to a car show that was showing the actual car from the movie. If you looked closely, you could see that it was actually dark blue.

It's nowhere near as cool as the Barris Futura, but I still remember this one pretty fondly. The way the armor plates come out and surround the car is physically impossible of course but it has an early Tim Burton animation charm to it. Thumbs up.

It certainly fits with the art deco look of Gotham as depicted in the movie.

Best movie version so far. I still get chills at these race to the bat-cave scenes, but my goosebumps get goosebumps starting when she says Where are we going?

The BvS version looks pretty tough though too. An upset may be in my favorites future.

I'm not a huge fan of the Frank Miller-inspired "tank" look of the tumbler or even the BvS batmobile. I like more sleekness.

Voted Awesome. I loved this Batman'89/BMReturns Batmobile as much as I loathed the Batman&Robin'97 Batmobile.
