Bad blood between Jeri Ryan and Kate Mulgrew?

It's know that there was jealousy on the part of Mulgrew when producers brought in Jeri Ryan, for reasons that were petty. But beyond Mulgrew feeling intimidated by Ryan's youth and beauty I remember hearing that Mulgrew used "Dirty tricks" that actors have used for decades to throw off Ryan during takes. It's well known Mulgrew made life hell for Ryan on set, and her jealous attitude even mentally harmed Garret Wang. ( Interview I saw years later with him crying about it, it's hard to watch.)

What "dirty tricks" did Mulgrew use as a seasoned actress to throw off Ryan? And how intimidated was Mulgrew by producers attempt to salvage the ratings by "sexing up" Ryan by putting her in a catsuit?

How I heard it, is that Kate was upset Jennifer was fired, and kept blaming Jeri for Jennifer's exit.

It's about loyalty.

Still awful, but way better than, mirror mirror.

If I remember right, it was more resentment than intimidation. Mulgrew took pride in the fact that she had brought into being a captain who was strong, capable, and well versed in STEM. And she saw Ryan's character as a step backward, a return to "eye candy". That certainly did not make her actions right, however, and Ms. Mulgrew has admitted her wrongdoing.

I agree with Mulgrew that it was a step back, but why did she take it out on the actress? She only did her job and was not to blame for the 'step back'. That responsibility would have been with people higher in the chain.

It didn't help that Seven was suddenly front and centre in publicity as well. Mulgrew was getting edged out of interviews and magazine covers.

What's the story behind mirror mirror?
Remember that episode of TNG where the Alien was talking in metaphor, which stumped the Universal Translator?

Saying "Mirror mirror" is faster than saying "murderous old bitch psychotically attacking a pretty teenage princess, for being young and pretty."

An earlier poster suggested that Kate was attacking Jeri because Jeri was too pretty, which is dumb and wrong. The reason Kate was attacking Jeri is still dumb, but it's not that dumb.

What really happened is that Kate blamed Jeri for getting Jennifer fired.

So dumb.

Gotcha, thanks for explaining

For some reason, I got it mistaken for Enterprise's "Mirror, Darkly" instead of the fable

Kate is very outspoken; she can afford to be. (Which doesn't make her right.) However, her public apologies to Jeri (no doubt backed up by private ones) and her reappearance in the ST franchise in Prodigy suggests to me that there is no more bad blood there. I'm hoping, like many I suspect, for a live-action meeting between the two at some point soon.

The River Temark in winter! Both of you! :nyah:

And if all the rumors about Shatner are false, then why were some of the actors playing junior officers on less than entirely friendly terms with him, yet got along just fine with Nimoy?

And opinions of Kate Mulgrew's acting ability are somewhat divided. (I actually liked Mrs. Columbo, and even Mulgrew herself grew to hate that show and character.)

People get pissed off at their colleagues, and even with friends and family, all the time.

Rumours of his relationship with Nimoy are somewhat false as they did become agitated with each other at one point with Shatner jealous of Nimoy's greater fan interest and letters and Nimoy making it clear he would not allow Shatner to steal his lines or overshadow him on set! :vulcan:
