Arik Soong / Noonian Soong connections & Arik = Noonian?

I didn't know whether to put this in the TNG forum or the Enterprise forum, so I put this here. (Aren't you all lucky! LOL.)

Memory Beta lists Noonian Soong as having been born in 2279, and dying (for the first time, if you follow the novels) at 105 in 2284 when Lore killed his physical body (and it lists him as being 22nd century scientist Arik Soong's "great-great grandson") But, given 23rd & 24th century medical technology, I really think that Noonian Soong looked *way* too old to have been a mere 105 years old...I think he was more likely between 130 and 150, which means he could have been born as early as 2229, which means he could have been around and practicing cybernetics in Kirk's time! (And so it's possible that he was only Arik Soong's grandson - or maybe even only his *son* - as opposed to great-great grandson - given 22nd century medical technology, and the possibility that he eventually escaped again, or was pardoned, or exiled to a colony in the early 23rd century...or freed. Which I think makes his name, "Noonian", thought to be in honor of Arik Soong's hero Khan Noonian Singh (since Arik was involved in experiments with *raising* cryogenically frozen Augment embryos in the 22nd century) make even more sense - maybe Arik named his son in Khan's honor, or Noonian's son picked the name for his son.)

Actually, I have a theory that maybe Arik Soong and Noonian Soong are the same person - given two pieces of evidence: in Enterprise, Arik Soongs saying that he was switching his interests from genetics to cybernetics..and that fact that Arik Soong knew about the existence of the Briar Patch in the 22nd century, and choosing it as a potential hiding place...what's in the Briar Patch? The Baku planet! And one of the benefits of living on the Baku planet? Extremely looong life - even *physical rejuvenation* in one stays around long enough! What if a future Arik Soong escaped again, and made his way to the Baku planet, hide out a century or so doing cybernetics research, and then re-emerged in the early 24th century as "Noonian Soong", naming *himself* in honor of his hero, Khan Noonian Sing!

(And what if, in the Alternate Universe, Arik Soong was recruited by Section 31 to help with the revival of on Khan Noonian Sing...? Who else alive then would even understand 20th/21st cryonics technology *and* Augment physiology!? Arik Soong would! And maybe in the Alt universe, that's when he made his escape into the Briar Patch...???)

And yeah, I need to get a life...and maybe a girlfriend...very badly.

It's not a terrible idea. And if it were true, it would help me deal with that horrible line about switching to cybernetics and how it may take a generation or two. They just couldn't help themselves, could they? :vulcan:

As for Noonien Soong's age: The holographic message left behind by Soong (in his later TNG appearance) doesn't jibe with his physical appearance in "Brothers". However in that latter episode we were told that Soong was dying; it was probably a disease that caused rapid aging.

^I just assumed that Soong altered his holographic appearance to look younger. (Was he dying though? I don't remember that...)

^ Yeah, he revealed he was dying after Lore showed up. (And in response, Lore told him he was "not that old".)

I remember this was a pretty popular theory in the Enterprise forum back when that trilogy first aired. I personally don't buy it. The character Arik Soong was intended to be a separate character and that's just the way I'll continue to view it.
