Archer - 4x01 - Fugue and Riffs

Anyone watch Archer? I missed this season's pilot on its premiere night, but I heard it did well ratings-wise, and after watching it, I thought that it was really good. I am looking forward to this season just like the others.

As always, I think the writing is superb with sly jokes and big, obvious ones lying side by side. The timing, the wordplay, and the mix of smart and dumb jokes are wonderful. And the ongoing in-jokes and strange pop culture references just make it more fun.

Thoughts?

I just started the first season, so I am nowhere near to S4 yet, but it is one of the funniest shows I have seen in ages.

I bought season 3 DVD with a gift card last week. The show is just too funny.

My favorite line is still "Just the tip!" from the pilot.

I enjoyed this episode. However, the start made my head hurt. It's a crossover with Bob's Burgers that's basically one long inside joke that both Bob and Archer are played by Jon Benjamin who uses his real voice for both. Since nobody (including me) has seen Bob's Burgers, I have no idea if there were references I was missing from that, though.

Otherwise, there were some well-worn tropes they reused, but it was solid nonetheless. I remember thinking last season started weak and then picked up so I can't complain about the start here.

Yeah, I didn't know anything about Bob's Burgers before seeing it either. I felt the situation was funny enough (though for a minute I wondered if I had missed an episode explaining why Archer didn't know who he was) and wasn't harmed by not knowing about Bob. The line about the health inspector capped it off well also.

Bob's Burgers is actually funnier than anything else on Animation Domination these days, after a very weak start.

Finally caught the premiere and the next episode on VOD and I Have to admit the show hasn't really lost any of the steam from the previous 3 seasons - I also like how they do show SOME progression of the characters. The second episode was funny with them again revisiting the "Just the Tip!" joke, but more for the "Peer Reviews" running joke - which as anyone who's ever worked in an office or company that did that, can tell you that their reactions were totally spot on.

Cyril having to lay naked in the snow while Lana made a sling for a tree to fall was just too funny. Good thing this is just animation, doubt any male actor would willingly lay face down in the snow butt naked and wait for the shot!

I am a little curious though about where that new hubby of Mallory's came from, just sort of came out of nowhere and even by the second episode, he's more or less ignored other than her talking about a Cruise.

The flashback scene was awesome - a THIN Pam... wow. I just assumed she was always heavy!

I have a feeling that's kind of the point. He's "introduced" as a character we're already supposed to be familiar with, as if he's been around the whole time.

Don't worry, you'll learn more about Ron Cadillac soon. ;)

The premiere was brilliant. The Bob's Burgers crossover killed me. I loved the angle that the kids were from a previous marriage, etc. I just wish the crossover carried into Bob's Burgers as well.

H. Jon Benjamin is easily one of the top 3 voice actors performing right now.

He's very good, but I don't know that I would go top 3... All his voices are essentially his own voice. What makes a great voice actor is the ability to do multiple voices. But he is very good. It's the comedic timing that makes his voice great.

The second episode of the season is one of my favorite's of the show's, it's just too funny!

Just the tip was even better the second time.

The part with the tree falling and the last scene with the look on Lana's face. It was great.
