Appereantly, Commodore Paris WAS a nod to Tom Paris...

I thought it was anyway, especially as the film was full of nods to the Trek series.

I was one of the people who thought that, with so many nods already, this was just coinsidence. So it's still cool that VOY got a little nod as well. :)

Which nod did TNG and DS9 get?

It's a bit a stretch but some think the very fact that they included a space station at all in the story is a nod to DS9.

I knew Commodore Paris was an ancestor of Tom and the Admiral (and little Miral) ;). It's nice to think that maybe they will exist in this timeline.

Er, why wouldn't someone with the last name "Paris" NOT be a nod to Tom Paris? Until VOY, the only other person on Earth with that name was Paris Hilton, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't a nod to her.

It would've been better if Shohreh Aghdashloo had been Commodore Bashir.

Yeah, that doesn't make sense. I assume the intended rationale is something to do with their ethnicity, but Aghdashloo is Iranian and Alexander Siddig is Sudanese-British, two entirely different ethnicities. Not to mention that plenty of people have ethnically mixed ancestries that aren't necessarily visible on their faces. Not to mention that she could be an indirect ancestor; Jeri Taylor's novels Mosaic and Pathways established that there have been quite a few Parises in Starfleet over the centuries.

One of Michael's kid.
Yep. And Paris Leonard is the sister of the famous boxer Sugar Ray Leonard - but unlike Paris Jackson and Paris Hilton, she isn't even B-level famous. I only knew her from when she worked at the bank in the town I used to live in. Point being, it isn't a totally uncommon name - a Google search comes up with a LOT of 'em.

Stargazer with same registry number as Picard's ship of the same name. The saucer crash on the planet has to be a nod to Generations.
Stargazer I buy, that is a nod.
The saucer crash... well, how many ways to crash the saucer of a giant spaceship on an alien planet are there? XD

I've brought up my own family before in this discussion. I'm part Native American and apparently look Latino. Husband is of Nordic descent with the accompanying blond hair and blue eyes. One child looks like me, two look like him. The younger two have a really fun time defending the fact that they in truth, part Native American. Our son got the positive end of it, he doesn't sunburn. Daughter is lactose intolerant and complains that she got the short end of the stick. ;)

The ringed design of the space station, to me, is certainly evocative of DS9. A space station can have any shape really (in fiction, that is), and it would be just fine. A big ball in space would've worked. But emphasizing the habitable rings in so much of the design made me think DS9, even before it became a part of the climax.

But even then, I feel like DS9 was referenced so much in Into Darkness (rightfully so) that I would've been okay if Beyond had no more references to it. And yet, there we are, and I love it.

It could always drop out of the sky like a rock, though I'd love it if the saucer floated for a few seconds, just long enough to pop out a sign that says "Help!" before falling with long whistle.
