Anyone remember a Pringles commercial circa 1979-80?

I have a clear memory of this musical Pringles commercial subtitled "For Every Passion There's a Pringles," but haven't come across it on YouTube so far. Anyone else remember it?

Lyrics

Scene 1: Nerdy people in business attire

We are the Mild Munchers
We crave a chip that's light
So very thin and crispy
That doesn't have a bite

Scene 2: Cowboys around a campfire

We are the Country Crunchers
We crave a chip that bites!
[third line - probably something about spices]
With a crunch that really fights

Scene 3: Rich people in formal dress, with a large bowl of dip

We are the world's Big Dippers
Just look how much we take
We crave a chip that's rippled
And very hard to break

Narrator: [spoken] Whether you're a Mild Muncher, a Country Cruncher, or a Big Dipper, there's a Pringles for you.

Mild Muncher (a young nerdy boy):
For every passion there's a Pringles

Country Cruncher (in a John Wayne voice):
A chip to make you rave!

Big Dipper (in operatic voice):
So there's a Pringles made for you
No matter what you crave

[Probably the narrator returns here to mention Original Pringles, Pringles Country Style, and Pringles Rippled]

All three groups combined:
For every passion there's a Pringles!



Now, I'm sure I couldn't have just imagined all that, right? :shrug:
 
Pringles came out in America in 1967, I remember them well because I was in high school. They didn't go international until 1975. I don't remember that as one of their ad campaigns in the United States, and Wikipedia makes no mention of it in their Pringles article which discusses marketing campaigns.

So it might be 1) an ad for a different product entirely, 2) an ad shown in other countries, or 3) collective amnesia apparently by everyone but yourself.

When I did a Google search for the phrase "for every passion there's", this thread was the second item listed.
 
I vote for number 3, since this ad was definitely on in the USA, and there was no other potato chip called Pringles, especially in those three varieties! Either it's collective amnesia or I've been transferred into an alternate universe where everything is the same except that commercial. :vulcan:

I'd say this is the likeliest possibility.
 
I've been digging around Youtube and Dailymotion, among other video sites, and I've watched more than a dozen Pringles commercials from the late 1960s to the early 1980s, and I've yet to see it. I found one with cowboys, and it referred to the Pringles Extra chips, but not one where everyone is together. The slogan isn't found anywhere, either. Even searching for the simple phrase "there's a Pringles for you," turns up nothing but other Pringles commercials, so I don't know what to tell you.

That said, going down pop history lane is always fun.

The first Pringles commercial I distinctly remember watching was this one from 1985:

Before the "For Every Passion" ad, there was one with singing cowboys when they introduced Country Style Pringles, about which I remember only the lyric "... Pringles Country Style, you see." At least I think that was it. Not much memory trace of that one.

Clearly they ran "For Every Passion" dozens of times, since the entire thing is still lodged in my memory. :brickwall:

I'll bet my sister remembers it... she wanted to grow up to be a Mild Muncher.

Anyway, since the prevailing attitude today is "if it's not on the Internet, it doesn't exist," my mission is now accomplished. :bolian:

Or perhaps it's just a very colourful and detailed delusion you suffered through after eating way too many cans of stacked potato chips?

I mean just look at those ingredients... something there sounds like it could have reacted badly on you! :)

I remember the jingle. I've not had working sound for over a month, and I can still mentally "hear" the jingle.
 
Little known fact: Gene Wolfe, the prolific sci-fi author who wrote "The Book of the New Sun", "The Book of the Long Sun", "Free Live Free" and other works, was also the mechanical engineer who developed the machine that cooks the Pringles.

I didn't mean to imply that it never existed, so I apologize if that's how it came across. I believe you, and I empathize, because I remember old TV spots that no one else seems to know about.

There's one I've been looking for, for years, regarding a public service announcement about reading. It's about this troll/monster, and he sings about how he didn't like books before, but now he's a "real book lover," but for the life of me I can't find any reference to it anywhere.

So, yes, I know how it feels. It's like being Benny Russell, because IT'S REAL! :lol:

Yep, I remember it well.

It took YEARS of me pestering the managers at my local Co-op to get the Pizza-flavored ones.

I liked the BBQ mesquite flavor, too - do they still make those?
