Any Corner Gas fans here?

Middle Earther

It has just completed its six year run on CTV here in Canada and was created by stand up comedian Brent Butt. I know it has been syndicated in some US markets, too.

I'm a huge fan of this show. I even went on the tour of the sets in Rouleau and Regina, SK a few summers ago. I loved getting to sit in the booths at the Ruby and to even see the small town of Rouleau. The tour guide said there was a bit of a population boom in the town due to the show. The population went from 350 to about 400. :)

Anyone else a fan here at TrekBBS? Just wondering....

LOVE Corner Gas - I didn't watch much over the last two years, but the first seasons were fantastic! :D

The first few years were great, though I've found the last few seasons to be a little stale. Still, it definitely had some great moments and a fantastic sense of humour. My favourite episodes are mostly from the first and second season, and if I had to name one I enjoyed most it'd be "All My Ex's are from Toronto". Especially for that "Let's roll" scene.

Good to see some fans here! I do agree that it did get a little stale for some shows. However, the final season (6) was a lot like the first in terms of its humor. They definitely went out on a high note!

Some of my faves from season 6:
- Brent and Emma try to convince Oscar that he's American.
- The "F" from the "Cafe" sign is blown away in a windstorm...leading to jokes like "Get the 'F' off my lawn!" This reminded me of the "World's Biggest Hoe" episode in season one.
-Emma has to take over a grade 5 class she volunteered for since the teacher went AWOL.

Good season - I think they're showing them on Comedy Network on Saturday nights now.

I liked the show more back in the first couple of seasons before all the cameos started - although I liked the Kiefer cameo - but it's an alright show. The writers (who've probably all guest starred on the show themselves) are nerds, so at least it has that sensibility.

To be fair, they did have a few camoes\stunt casting back in the first season, too. I seem to recall Pamila Walin in a S1 episode, and Colin Mochrie in a hilariously self-referential cameo. And there was also that great episode where Kevin Macdonald was the guest star... "I'm not THE taxman, I'm A taxman!"

Someone else was actually telling me about that show not too long ago. I'd definitely like and have been meaning to check it out.

I've just started watching this show on WGN. I like it a lot. I definitely approve of the total absence of a laughtrack. I hate those.

Although I do feel sorry for that one guy, having to go through life with a name like "Brent Butt". :wtf:

I think my favorite bit so far is when Oscar and Hank are census takers and they act like they're in a buddy cop film. :guffaw:

Well, the whole series is out on DVD now anyway. I have to imagine that they'd end up down in the States at some point.

I can't say I'm a fan of the show, but I plan to get into it one of these days.

Having said that, I'm most definitely a Gabrielle Miller fan.

I've seen the entirity of the first 2 seasons and was watching it pretty consistently for a while over the summer, but lost touch with it and haven't gotten back. Glad to know season 6 was a high point.

I'll get back to it eventually. I like that it's a different sort of humor that you have to think about more than some American sitcoms as well.

I just bought the whole thing - all six seasons - on DVD. I'm set for the duration. :techman:

Is there a term for Corner Gas fans? How about, as Oscar might call us, "jackasses"? :D

I really liked the show and I was disappointed when WGN America dropped it.

At 1st I thought it was just okay. After watching a few eps and getting a feel for it though, I really started to appreciate their kind of low key approach to humor.

Anybody ever notice that with 1 or 2 exceptions NOBODY on the show ever dates or has any sort of love interest? You don't usually see that on a sit com.

I actually appreciated that they blew up any expectations that Brent and Lacey would get together by the first episode of season 2.

I mean, it's where Big Bang Theory should have went (and maybe will, eventually).
