Anson Mount for Captain Christopher Pike

The resemblance is in the jaw and mouth, but He seems a bit young for the role. He's only 2 years older then Quinto, and certainly doesn't look much older. It seems that Pike should be at least in his 40s or even a solid 'Hollywood 50', as he really shouldn't be Kirk's contemporary. Personally I'd love to see Liotta in the role, but only if they get him to a gym first.

Umm dude. He'll be 35 when this comes out. A 35 year old Pike...

while Kirk and Spock are recently out of the academy in their 20s (according to Damon)...

Thats actually how its supposed to be.

Pike shouldnt be older than this and this point in time.

Damon said he THINKS Abrams is going for a 20-something, that is hardly a stone-carved decree from the producers.

Pike is at least 15 years older than Kirk. Quinto is officially playing Spock and is 30. Spock would be on the Enterprise already serving under Pike (around the events of The Cage) if they cast a 23 year old Kirk. But like I said in another thread, there is no way they'll cast a 20-some college age kid for Kirk and be forced to either recast for a time jump or hold out for a decade before he looks old enough to have a command. You won't see anyone younger than 28 playing Kirk, period. And if they do cast a kid in the role, I'll happily print out this post and eat it on my webcam for you.

I'll hold you to that.

But I'm working under the assumption that Damon is correct and Kirk and Spock are fresh ensigns or lieutenants recently out of the Academy (as opposed to serving on the Enterprise together at this point). Spock is some years older than Kirk regardless.

I've never heard of him, but he certainly has the eyes. He'd be great to pursue for that role. If he can act, and they even bother with the role in the film.

The last few red carpets and films I've seen him in he is indeed looking a bit past his prime though. He would need to drop some weight. . . He has the right look and the gravitas though. . . If only they would have tried this restart 10-15 years ago, we could have had Pike in his prime.

Mount looks like he could be good - physically - for either Pike or Kirk. The age is good, too, only a couple of years older that Quinto.

I do think he looks a great deal more like Hunter than Ray Liotta does. There's a passing resemblance between Liotta and Hunter, but the gestalt is different - Liotta's very Mediterranean, Hunter is very "whitebread" (which no doubt had a part in his being cast in "King Of Kings," also known as "I Was A Teenage Jesus").

Personally this Anson Mount guy could be made to look like Kirk, but I think he is too young for Pike.

Liotta does look like he could pull it off in the image posted, but how recent is the image?

It depends when this film takes place when Spock and Kirk are just out of the Academy....

Or when Spock and Kirk are serving on the Enterprise

Theres an 11 yr difference between those 2 points in history

I was looking at that picture and said, hey that's true, that guy really looks like Jeff Hunter. And then I realized it was Jeff Hunter...

Anyway, I don't think Star Trek XI should be a lookalike contest. These are pretty huge shoes to fill in.
Any newcomer should possess a lot of mojo to pull it off and make believe the audience that Kirk, Spock and McCoy could be performed by someone else.
I have more confidence in Quinto though. Yeah that's it. A matter of mojo.

The first picture you posted didn't work, but the second is a pretty good resemblance. I still think he is too young to be playing Captain Pike though, unless Kirk really is (perish the thought) going to be 20ish in this movie.

Theres definitely a vague facial resemblence to Jeff Hunter in the head shape, eyes etc and he has that dark, gruff look that Hunter had.

FYI, IF Pike is in this movie, I think this guy certainly looks the part. In fact, better than than anyone else I've seen tossed out. I can see this guy in the same scenes Hunter did and having those scenes FEEL the same. I can't see that with Cruise, or ... oh, the "Hannibal Brain's scene" guy whose name is slipping me a the moment... it's partially about pure appearance, but it's also partially about the general "carriage" of the guy, and this guy is the closest to "Pike" I've seen to date.

Of course, I'm not convinced that Pike will be there at all, and if he is I doubt he'll be a significant player in the film.

Time will tell... ;)
