While I don't think much of it has been properly confirmed I keep hearing rumours about some Hollywood celebrities working as 'high class' prostitutes before taking up acting - for example I often hear about Michelle Pfeiffer turning tricks back in the 1970s (with conflicting rumours of her being part of a cult that was not Scientology) and while not an actress per se, the worst Beatles worrying harpie since Yoko Ono, Heather Mills, has been widely confirmed as working as a esctort girl in the 1980s. Then I hear about Denise Richards supposedly being one of Heidi Fleiss' women, but that was proven false.

This is not as ridiculous as it sounds, since back in the day (in the 18th and 19th century) many theatre actresses worked as prostitutes to make ends meet.

Don't know if you'd call her an "actress" (she was in Smallville once!), but former WWE Diva Ashley Massaro was reported to have worked for an extremely expensive Los Angeles-based escort agency by Rolling Stone magazine. The FBI investigated that agency but not Massaro.

As it stands it is Rolling Stone's word against Massaro's. She quickly responded to the allegations on her MySpace page, strongly denying them. Wrestling Observer also reported that a Las Vegas-based bikini model also named Ashley Massaro might have been mistaken for her but noted that the escort agency said "Ashley Massaro" was from New York, which is where the WWE Massaro is from.

Massaro has since left WWE, citing her daughter's ill health. She had not been in the company's good books for some time leading up to her departure. She looked ill when she returned from appearing on Survivor and then after Wrestlemania she was suspended for an apparent wellness policy violation that was never explained.

Where does prostittion start. I've known many dancers who used their leg or behind to rub against a man's groin who have gotten bit parts in commercials and TV shows. Many more who went that route rather then girls who cut a porn scene in hope of getting on the video box cover thus becoming a feature dancer.

Well those seedy rumours keep cropping up on talk forums and blogs every so often, but I don't think once being a sex worker or/and pornographic performer is detrimental to anybody who got him/herself out that sort of dead end and moved onto better things (I heard that Hugh Jackman was supposedly in gay porn, but I don't think it has any real bearing on his present day career).

I've liked Michelle Pfeiffer since Scarface in the 1980's, and I have personally never read or heard that she was a prostitute, escort or whatever. When would she have done this? She was already getting work on network TV by age 20 (she was born in April 1958 and her TV show "Delta House" aired briefly starting in January 1979). During what years would she have become so disillusioned and desperate?

Oddly enough, I just finished reading Kenneth Anger's Hollywood Babylon.

And while he was eager to dish the dirt on all of the great stars from the 20s to the 60s, he didn't mention a single one of them starting their careers as prostitutes.

He did mention that many young women drifted into prostitution after moving to California and failing to get more than extra work and bit parts in the movies.

Fascinating book.

I've liked Michelle Pfeiffer since Scarface in the 1980's, and I have personally never read or heard that she was a prostitute, escort or whatever. When would she have done this? Squeezed in between high school years in middle-class Orange County and her time working at Disneyland, no doubt. Wherever it is that the OP "often hears" things of this sort can probably be safely discounted as a source of reliable information about anything.
