A Stitch In Time is an excellent book!

I recently bought the biography about Garak, "A Stitch In Time" written by Andrew J. Robinson, the actor who portrayed Garak in the series.

A very well-written book about Garak which tells the exciting story of his life and also give us a good look into the Cardassian society and the Cardassian way of living.

I also find it amazing that Andrew J. Robinson not only did such an excellent performance of Garak in the series and really gave the charater life but that he also cared so much about the character that he wrote such a good book about him.

If you enjoyed A Stitch in Time, you might enjoy a number of Garak-themed and Cardassian-themed novels written by author Una McCormack:
  • Cardassia: The Lotus Flower (2004; published in Worlds of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Vol. I)
  • Hollow Men (2005)
  • The Never-Ending Sacrifice (2009)
  • The Fall: The Crimson Shadow (2013)
  • Enigma Tales (2017)
Garak also makes a small cameo, revealing a vital role he played in certain major historical events, in the novel The Lost Era: The Art of the Impossible by Keith R.A. DeCandido. He has supporting roles in several other novels in the novel continuity, including the Destiny trilogy, The Fall: Peaceable Kingdoms, and Section 31: Control.

Thanks for advice! :techman:

I will start to look for books like these

A Stitch in Time is my favorite Star Trek book. I so wish Robinson followed it up with another novel based the story he and Alexander Siddig put together for the conventions, but maybe it’s best he didn’t if there wasn’t enough there.

Lol I suddenly had a flash of Garak going back to Bamarran for his reunion (balloons and banners hanging, and punch on long tables with plastic tablecloths lining a dimly-lit gymnasium) and some former classmate calling out, “Ten Lubak!” to Garak’s apprehensive surprise. :cardie: :rommie::rommie:

He actually did, sort of. He wrote a short story called "The Calling" as a follow-up to A Stitch in Time and its plot involves Garak getting lost in the meta-dimensional nexus that features heavily in the play he co-wrote with Siddig. "The Calling" was published in the DS9 anthology Prophecy and Change.

The story is interesting, if a little impenetrable at times, and is very clearly influenced by Borges.

I was very disappointed with the story. I bought Prophecy and Change just for that and found it pretty incomprehensible. I LOVE A Stitch in Time, which added to my disappointment. I still own the book (P&C)—it is being fostered at a friend’s house, so I need to reread it and hopefully make more sense of it.

The Never Ending Sacrifice is one of my favorite pieces of Trek literature ever written. The story of the Cardassian people post war, their society as a whole and Rugal’s coming of age make it for something unlike what we see in most Trek novels. So if you like a Stitch In a Time, which I also was a fan of, I highly recommend you take a look at this one and give it a read.
