7's costume

Shat Happens

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
So I was rewatching Scorpion. I could not help thinking how poor Jeri Ryan must have felt in that awful full-borg costume and makeup and things glued.

The next episodes she wore the silver catsuit -- really seems uncomfortable.

The other costumes seemed alright. But man, those first ones must have been a pain.

Also, only now I noticed the full-borg costume had no high heels. That contributed for the alien look I think. Kind of like how Arnold had no eyebrows as the Terminator.

I never noticed that in the 90s with my TV-taped VHS tapes.

The silver costume was my favorite for how it caught the light, but that was the one that made her pass out because the high collar pressed on an artery. I don't know what material was used, but I think it took at least an hour to get into and out of, so she had to modify her eating habits to avoid bathroom breaks.

The darker costumes helped to de-emphasize her figure a bit and made the overt sexuality of the costume less in your face.

R.I.P Me

:adore:

I have Seasons 4 & 7, and she's great in the special features. The difference between Seven and herself show how much work she put into the character.

Hmmm the blue or Maroon? it's a tie for me.

I loved the silver if it wasn't intended for Voyager. Too much, "take a look at my goodies."

^ That would have been the problem with any light colored material though of that design. It was essentially a body stocking with a built-in foundation garment since she couldn't wear underwear with it. Jeri described it as basically a corset.

That's true, but the muted tones weren't so blinding. The softer tones for me, anyway, were less distracting. I recall day of honor episode it was be particularly sheen in the hallways. I gather however had it not injured her and it stayed I might have become immune. I'm just going by what I felt first airing and it was front and center to me and I was glad when she went to richer deep tones.

They should have just given her real clothes to wear. Problem solved.

I wish they had given Seven a normal outfit. Jeri Ryan really doesn't need an oversexualized outfit to look stunning (just look at her other work) and it was distracting people from the fact that she's a great actress.

You know what was awful in catsuits?
Most catsuits are, regardless of colour, material or cut.

All Trek women in catsuits have been putten into standard uniform at one time or another and always looked a lot better because of it. Its about time the PTB realised that.

But what about if the character is an actual cat, like the cat girls NuKirk was in bed with? Can they be put into cat suits without upsetting folk?

I think the term is misleading. This is what a cat suit should look like:

If there are cat girls in bed with NuKirk, none of them should be wearing any kind of suit at all.

All I know is, Jeri had to have a lot of self confidence to walk around in that thing. She'd said she didn't have a problem showing shape, and preferred it to showing skin. But with the way it clinged to the body, it must have felt as exposed as a bikini.
